We decided to have a look around Phuket town, visit the Big Buddha (a 45m tall statue being built to celebrate the King's 80thbirthday and has a great view point of the island) and then head to a beach to cool off in the sea. The sandy cove was lovely and despite parasol along the whole strech of the beach it was a quiet spot to enjoy a book. Episodically, there were a few big waves so we had a go at body surfing, which was a lot of fun. During the day we experienced a variety of the public transport system from a pricey air-con mini van taxi (450 baht for 10km), a private car (300 baht for 12km), a pimped up baby blue tuk tuk (300 baht), a pick up truck bus (100 baht).
