It was possibly the most depressing place I have visited (with the exeption of the giant council estate jumble sale that is TKmax). - Robben Island; where Nelson Mandela was held for 18 years of his 27 years. His cell was 2x2meters and all there was in the cell was a bucket, a cup, and two blankets- even less than Mother Theresa owned. Best bit - There was a small limestone quarry that the inmates were made to dig out. Pretty uneventful until the tour guide (who was himself an ex-prisoner) pointed out small toilet cave which, because of apartheid laws, was the only place a white guard in the prison could not go.
