What is the Occupy Wall Street movement, and Why is it happening? Well the way the article "Occupy Wall Street: Civil society's awakening" put it, Think of civil society and the state as a joined marriage of necessity. The wife,which of course is society, is supposed to love, cherish, and obey. In this case, the state is the domineering husband who expects to have power over violence, planning and policymaking. The husband abandoned his actual wedding vows a long time ago. He left home to have a "love affair" with the Fortune 500 companies, but he still thinks that we, civil society, should remain faithful and obedient.
