So we took a private night bus from Mangalore to Kochi. We got luxury seats for the 11 hour drive, very comfortable, pleased we couldn't see too much as the driving felt a little erratic to say the least! The break in the journey, allowed for some delicious chai (sweet, milky, spicy tea) and for becks to witness "the worst toilet in the world" (trainspotting, but messier!) We got into to the main part of the city at 7am and took the ferry across to Fort Kochin, a 16th C. portughese town, very calm, quiet and full of mosquitoes. The chikungunya (sp?) disease is in decline, with hardly any recent cases reported, we were also reliably told that the carriers of this untreatable illness only bite below the knee, helpful if probably untrue!
