Glaciers Dunno if I'm supposed to be the Dave with the knowledge of physical geography, but my guess would be that the temperature is low enough in average conditions for the existing ice not to melt but high enough that a large body of water such as the lake does not freeze. They call these sorts of volcanoes "calderas".
Dave's on the case I think blog is about the only one Dave isn't reading at the moment but he's on the case about the glacier thing.... should have an answer within the next 10-15 minutes
