you are amazing sonya, I am so happy you are there at this time in your life, i never knew your mother, actually i guess i do thru you and Elisa. What an amazing woman she was, looking at you and your beautiful sister. She is smiling right now, so happy you are living out the dream she always wanted for you. to travel this beautiful world, and really LIVE!!
Good for you treating yourself to some luxury after some of the stories you have wrote here, you really deserve it. Enjoy my friend, Enjoy!!
Back to School Hi Sonya..love your blog..you are amazing. It is back to school for us soon! We'll miss you at Stanford. Lisa is getting things together. I have not forgotten about my contacts in Argentina. Just waiting until it gets a bit closer. Sorry about your grandfather. I hope you continue to have a wonderful time.
Favorite Picture I love all the pictures and I even made Bryan look at all of them and we both decided that we don't have the balls you do! LOL! My favorite pic is of you laying down and taking in nature by the falls. I can tell that that moment was wonderful and most likely overwhelming for you. Nature is so powerful, but beautiful and peaceful at the same time. I was imagining myself laying there. I probably would of cried because we are so numb living where we do that we forget we are one with the earth and that God made us to be with nature and not in concrete.Thank you for the pics, they are gorgeous and so are you! =)
Hi Annie! I miss you too! Wish you could be here with me to see all these amazing places and meet all these special people! Thanks for reading the blog...it makes me feel closer to you. :)
hi E! The water is that reddish color because of the minerals in the earth that are on the top of the tepuis...this minerals wash down off the tepuis into the rivers...the water is so beautiful red in the sun! Wish you guys were there to do this part of the trip...you have to see Salto Angel some day!
wow How beautiful!!! My favorite pic is of you swinging on the vine with the moving foliage in the background. So may awesome pictures capturing the beauty of the places you've seen as best as a camera can! How exhilerating that plane ride must have been?! And swimming at the base of the falls!! Why did the water at the beach and in the river look a rust color in certain places?
HOLY SHIT!!! Girl, you must be tough-as-nails 'cause I know I wouldn't of made it as far as you have!! It must be because you are sooo young that you can tolerate all this......I must be what they call a "high maintenence girl"!!! I have to, at the very least, have clean bathrooms when I travel, and I would of been scared to death of all those crazy ass people you are talking about!!!! But on the other hand, one day you will have VERY interesting stories to tell your children and grandchildren!!!! Be careful.....I will worry about you until you come home and I see your beautiful face again!!!
Love,
Jules
Miss you girl! Yes...luck has definatly been on my side! I am so glad you are reading my blog...it makes me feel like I am not so far away. Miss you! :)
Light at the end of the tunnel.... I'm so glad everything ended up working out....but of course only you would be able to pull through something like that!! I can't tell you enough how proud I am of you and how I LOVE hearing about your adventures!! I'm relieved that you've met some great people and in good company! Please stay safe as you move on to your next quest! Te amo mucho!!!! xoxo
Venezuela- The land of Banks (no pun intended) Thanks for the birthday wishes! If you can master the banking system in Venezuela, then you should have no problem surviving the other trivial matters of the Amazon Basin like deadly pirahnas, venemous serpents, alligators, dinosaurs, and and of course those vicious cannibalistic savages that are threatening to not give up their land to the progress of capitalism. Have fun at the falls. Just don´t fall. Love ya- S y E
It is so good to hear about your travels, and I'm sure you know how much Laur and I want to be there with you...eating, singing, dancing and laughing and oh, did I mention eating? :) Have a blast...was in your land last week, was in Orange County and San Diego, nice weather and gorgeous warm water (not as amazing as Baracoa waters!) Miss you, have so much fun!
viva cuba libre: azucar amargo yes, la vida en cuba es muy difficil! bittersweet it is. you are so blessed to be able to do the travel you are doing now. so many around you will benefit so much. thanks for the reminder that our way of life is the anomoly! keep on keeping on.
LOVE!! You are so right on -- we'll never fully stop being tortured by what we've seen and experienced... but that is the drive to continue to travel, to see and experience, to bear witness to reality, and to bring beauty to all that we do, see, and breathe.
The friends we made in Baracoa, and all across that great island know us to be genuine, and generous human beings... and that's an incredibl gift to be able to give.
We cannot be ashamed or guilty about where we're from - we can only try and spread the privilege around to benefit others, and show them that not all Americans are fuck-faces ;)
Welcome back to the road, baby, Im SO glad you made it back. Cant wait to hear all about Mex/GUA, you jet-setter, you.
Love
Lauren
PS: I have been in th hospital for 5 days with terrible fever and body aches, which they think is Dengue. Theyre awaiting the CDC results form my blood to determine the cause, but holy shit, whatever it is, it SUCKS! BRING DEET on your travels, to avoid this really prevalent disease (esp. in the tropics and the Caribbean!)
XO
Hola from one of the San Francisco sistas :)
Glad to hear you made it to Cienfuegos with your sis...hope you enjoy your last few days in the most amazing country ever!
How was the rest of your trip in Baracoa? Do anything fun without us? See my Jorge or Richard? :)
Love! I love that Rach and I got a mention in your travel blog! We'll never forget the time we spent in Baracoa - your descriptions of Cuba are RIGHT ON. So good to hear your words....
Keep rocking on - wish I were traveling with you!!

I live in Long Beach, Southern California. I love my job teaching 7th grade Biology/Health in Long Beach. However, for years I have dreamed of taking off to South America for a few months on my own with just my backpack...so now is the time to do it. I am very excited, scared, curious, and so much more. Can't wait for the adventures to begin. ... full info
