congrats Hi Britt,
Just caught up with your 2 most recent blogs - I was starting to miss them! Congrats again on the job and it sounds like a great opportunity. I love learning about the people's day to day lives - it is like reading an anthropology study made interesting! Also makes me very grateful not to be a woman in Laos!!
You go girl! Hi Brittnay...I love your blogs..keep up the good work...Why dont you just apply to have a dual citizenship so you will not have to pay $60 a month? My cousin in Vientiane is able to do that. You just have to find a family who will be responsible for you. I will return to Laos and retire after I have save enough money.
I Paid USD20 for a Massage in Luang Prabang Dear Britt,
Can you please tell me where to go for this USD6 massage? I paid USD20 for an hour-long full body massage during my short stay in Luang Prabang.
Welcome Back, Britt! It's nice to see you back to writing blogs, I really miss reading your wonderful and informative blogs! I am happy to hear that you've found a new employer in Luang Prabang. I just hope to see you again on my next trip to Laos! Take care.
rabbit and bear stuffed animals ok. you got me there. this is pretty scary stuff you write. stuffed animals like bear given out as prizes! lol *wink wink*
nice article Hey, I just found your article somehow on the internet, don't ask me how I got here but I'm glad I have found it.
As I'm belgian to I really like this story! I've been to Laos 4 times now I think and was always thinking of trying to find a job there. Living on that low cost really makes life even more beautifull and makes you think about how good we western people have it in our own country.
Ok, your article is about 2 years old now but I was just wondering if you're still hanging around there or (probably) moved on for another adventure. I haven't read any of you other post yet but will start doing that now.
Good luck with it if you're still living there and I'll hope to find the same thing one day.
I'm soo happy that you're ok!! Heya sexy lady!!! I can't believe you had to go through all that, but I'm soo happy to hear you feel better and that the Thai hospital could confirm your sickness!!! I love you heaps for that most generous donation for the walk we did today!!! You take care of yourself xoxo- namaste
so sorry about your sickness! hi Britt,
So sorry to hear how ill you were but relieved that the worst seems to be behind you. I assume (but who knows so I am advising anyways) that they warned you to take care with the swollen liver not to do anything strenous that could cause further injury, sort of like when you have mono you have to take it easy until things shrink back to normal. Take care and sounds like a trip home to recoop for a change of pace might be in order soon?
WOW I know some of the hospitals in the USA are bad from personal experiences ,but over and around the world make them look like medical geniuses. It gives new meaning to survival of the fitist. Anyway its a blessing you're OK.And fortunate your tough and in excellent condition heading into an illness like this. Now baby that liver for a while ! Love you and see you home soon. Freddy.
dont mind the music it keeps u alive the drivers on these long haul buses need every trick they can to stay alert on the road. and if the music helps keep them awake, it keep u alive!
Meat The way you describe how meat is sold in Laos makes me want to become a vegetarian. I think I’m going to stay away from the meat markets in Laos. Fast food dollar menu in the US can’t compare to food prices in Laos.
Food! A blog update mostly about food--now that's the way to finally get me to comment!! I've thoroughly enjoyed keeping up with your adventures and learning about Laos culture. Keep writing please--those of us living more mundane lives at home look forward to them!
amazing prices hi Britt,
I miss those cheap and amazing Thai massages! Similar prices to Laos in Thailand when I recently visited. Funny I was just in Ireland and one hotel listed "Thai Massage" for one hour for close to 100 bucks! And I believe a manicure and pedicure is close to $50 here now vs 60 cents. Also enjoyed your other recent 'food in a baggie' blog. You are so lucky to be experiencing this other world and we are lucky to be able to share it with you in this way. Keep it up!
lying and other cultural differences hi Britt,
just caught up with your last 2 posts. Great pics, wonderful vignettes. I appreciated the driving issues as I am in Ireland at the moment and apparently the rules of driving are similar - after 800 miles of touring in a small rental car I was very happy to give it back! The roundabouts were a challenge but more so the fast driving on windy two lane highways along the coastal routes. Interesting to read about the differences in what is proper and not proper to ask a stranger... and yet I read that it is rude to ask one's age in Thailand and to avoid this and I experienced this when I was in Thailand. So many people beat around the bush wanting to know how old I was but they hemmed and hawed and finally one was I think "designated" to come out and aks me point blank after 2 weeks. Stay well and safe and keep up the great observations! And speaking of safe - yikes glad I am out of Thailand at the momnent and stear clear!!!
Small Things I guess a man who has nothing is grateful for a pair of flip flops. We have so much here, way more than I could need.I've met people who lie compulsivly,it was always puzzling to me,lying without any apparent motive. Good to hear from you Britt. Uncle Freddy.
Working hours If the working hours for offices in the US were the same as in Laos, I think the US would come to a complete stop. There would be a lot of happy workers, but almost no work would get done. Ling Kadu, that’s really funny.
LAOS The hospital look so nice,But in side service so bad some time the cost for service it's very expensive for me .
The Manager must be check with staff more time
thanks.
Naughty Monkey Ah yes "naughty monkees" , I thougt it was just here. Funny how questions are and aren't O.K. depending on where they are asked. Nice blog! Freddy.
Wonderful! Thank you for this well written document. The negative effects of tourisme will always make me sad. Having travelled through India, Nepal, Burma, Thailand, Sri lanka for the past 20 years, I have seen much of the negative effects unaware tourists are creating. A blog like yours may help people to remember to walk lightly on the planet.
appluad your work and efforts thank you for being a responsible traveler and in your case an active resident here in Luangprabang. LP needs more individuals liike yourself in getting people to be more aware of the customes and the long old tradition that makes LP unique
Learning to swim I live along the coast and nearby are many lakes and here also people drown because children / people never learn to swim. Tragic and preventable deaths. Start a swimming school?
