It’s not yet 5 am and we’re sitting on a street in Ho Chi Minh waiting for the hotels to open at around 8. The only thing to do is pass the time watching people and despite the early hours, there are quite a few about: street vendors, moto drivers, bar girls, people hanging outside their shops and people just chilling for the sake of it. A street cleaner sweeps up various bits and pieces, including remnants of vegetables. He leaves and half an hour later a vegetable seller passes by and drops a load of rotten vegetables at exactly the same spot, which I find hilarious (at that time of morning, you take whatever entertainment you can get).
