Sweet Moves I don't know Tim, between her Peanut Butter Football move and the Leap of Faith pose, maybe she's trying out for the Fan Dancers. Wait, "She said they were graceful."
Thanks Lauren! Thanks for keeping this blog up - I love reading about what you are doing, since the odds of my ever traveling to China are near zilch, and this way I can see it all through your eyes. The food, the potties, the significance of the fish head looking at the most important dinner guest, the ice sculptures...
Would love to hear about your classes, what school is like, typical day (like are you getting up at 5 am to exercise and as is the custom?) etc.
BTW, I am your cousin, Lauren, although Bob and Carol think you will remember me I'm not so sure as we haven't even made it as far as Chicago, never mind China.
...wow... See, now, this is what I get for writing these things late at night. I'm TRYING to keep everyone up-to-date with what I'm doing so I write them after I've studied Chinese for hours on end.....stupid English.... my bad.
I would just like to say, I was probably wishing that I had a couch at the time that I wrote "couch" rather than "coach." Thank you.
Coach Couch Everyone is asking me the same question. Was it the Dodgers or Padres coach that was named Couch? Which one did you ask to, "Put me in Couch?"
I have to admit that is a pretty tight way to spend a weekend. Next time invite me! Oh, and I got a kick out of the Jurassic Park thing. What you saw sounds like something out of National Geographic. Definitely beats seeing it on tv=)
Way to go... Lauren,
Glad to see you are "talking your way" around, I would expect no less from you! Had to be fun experiencing the flavor of home in China. Hang on to that ball! Should be worth loads one of these days, keep it with your Mom's Barbie...HA!
Love, Aunt Donna
WOW ok.... just WOW!!! Alright - i am without words on that entry! The lamb thing got to me a little - since I was in 4-H for 10 years and raised sheep! But you are right - not something that you will witness anywhere else. Your hostel stay was interesting as well. If it's clean and doable - $7 always works!
That church was beautiful! I can see what you meant by what you said - and I am not even seeing it in person!
Keep up your studies and keep the info and pics coming! You are amazing!
Fascinating! We really enjoyed the pictures, your commentaries and the great description of the meal customs you are experiencing. Huge Kudos to you for being such a 'good sport' and trying everything ('cept those 'best left for hopping' feet!)
Food... Well - I will let you pass on the chicken feet! GROSS!!!! That one orangy looking chicken dish looks like something I could try. That squirrel carp thing was two funny! Glad to know that you are eating good (lol) and having a great time! I look forward to each of your entries. :o)
Picture taking 1982 When I was in China in 1982 i took a polaroid camera and when i took pictures of the chinese families or children, they stood around and watched the picture develop right then and there. They always were thrilled to see the pictures come alive. I gave them the picture to keep. It was a wonderful experience that I will never forget. Glad you are having this opportunity in your life.
WOW! All of that sounds wonderful! I love AVERS but let me tell you I love Chinese food too - and that is a deal for sure. I don't even think that I would have tried the duck. I pretty much stick with what I know - ya know! :o)
Sounds like you are having a blast! I look forward to the pictures.
Stay out of trouble and don't get flattened by a car please!
Looking forward to your next entry!
step it up Ya, so... not interesting at all... You're really gonna need to step up your game. That being said, I'm just kidding. Write more; and write often.
Okay~ try having blonde hair, green eyes, and being really pale. I might as well carry around a neon sign on my back! I want a Bei Da sweatshirt. Dude, you're gonna have to let me know where you got that! Haha~ I see you've made it to Walmart. Way to go! Actually, it's gotten quite warm recently, so you're lucky. It's when it's really cold that the pollution gets a bit unbareable. Gimme a call, I wanna see you!!!!
...I can't figure out this countdown... It keeps screwing up even though there are really 18 or 19 days left to go, it says 16....Therefore, just add 2 days onto whatever it says.
Hello Everyone! Well, I'm finally off to China and not just talking about it any more. I, ofcourse, miss all of my family and friends, but that's the point of this website! Hopefully I will periodically (as much as possible) update my travel journal so that you can all enjoy this experience with me without actually being in China.
For those of you that do not know, I have come to China to study abroad. Through May, I am studying at one of the universities in a language-intensive program so that I can focus on my proficiency in Chinese. From May through August, time is of the essence an... full info
