I've made up my mind I'm so glad that I met you on the train from Stockholm, so I had a chance to ask you all kinds of questions about the circuit, and then read about your whole adventure. I've just ordered a guidebook on trekking in Nepal and I've also checked how much the flight tickets are. So I really think that I will go to do this trek! Thank's for giving me the adress to your blog, it's been a pleasure reading about everything...
envy stops here I read the first blogs with a bit of envy. Lived vicariously. No more. Glad I was not on this adventure. You are on your own, girl. Positive attitudes, unmarked meds, nope, definitely not for me. I would prefer the entourage.(Sikkim)
What's Cookin'? Could it be you? Considering the food and the spiritual-related purpose of this tour, seems there was reasonable justification for the reemergence of the Ancient Rites of Cannabilism. Perhaps the lack of a bath first or gross-decon was why it didn't happen.... Who knows? As the non-swami follower, you might have been saved by the lingering aftermath of the sleeping bag!
Tibet Trek Good to know; You are well, and safe. You have had the kind of experiences, few of us can dream. Continue to stay well.
Your Friend Bob Cammett
The very old comment from the 19 year old is just payment for your comment about the old 41 year old. haha You should post some of your pictures on the site here.
Ecelsior You made it. I admire you for the fortitude you have shown. Think of all the adventures you have had. Enough for a dozen lifetimes. Stay well.
REd Sox in your absense Maybe it is your lack of presence at Fenway, but the Sox are 8-0 against the Yanks so far this year. WHere would you rather be, Bhutan or Fenway Park?
Bhutan I saw,on television, were Bhutan is considered, one of the new world wonders. The palace and environs. Did you feel as if: You'd found Shangri-La.
Stay well.
Your Friend, Bob
Winter wonderland "Sleigh Bells ring..." I reckon the last few months have ruined any thought of: Hiking The Appalchian Trail. After al you have seen,it would pale in comaprison.
We are forecast to reach 80+ and perhaps 90 Degrees on Thursday and Friday.
Stay well.
Your Friend, Bob
Glad I Was Told About This... Hey Laddy,
I have become a humble follower of your journey. Just found out about the blog from the fam...Will read religiously, and as ironically it is exactly 10 years (this June) since I set off around Thailand, the Philippines, Japan and China with a good friend...ahh, so much fun to get old.
But now, at least, I can live vicariously through you. Have a great time and be mindful of those touchy feely types on those long bus trips :)....

India Glad to know you are still 'hanging in there'. It sounds spectacular, and you have only started you Indian trek. Please take care. Stay well.

Vital items "my Red Sox baseball cap"
What's important, after all? (Incidentally, at last report the Red Sox were 5-0 against the Yankees so far this year.)
"I will be traveling with a guide and cook, and perhaps a person also to manage the horses who will carry all the bags/equipment."
For the first time in your life (that I know of), you have your own entourage!
jeeps, horses and smart growth You cannot hide an MIT technie...horses, high mountains, switchback roads, Tibetans, smushed bugs, an entire new culture and the technie notices "smart growth" strategies. A horse will never equal a yak for storytelling.
I just didn't know! Aladdine,
I had no idea someone could do a trek like this! I am so glad you have had such a tremendous adventure. You are so courageous! And I am so sorry that you were ill during this undertaking but I honor your willingness to hang in there. Now I can't wait for the next installment.
best, Alice
baby bubbles are SO much better than sweaty man-hands! glad you latched on to a savior and prudently kept w/her on the next leg of your trip! spring is totally here in boston now, warm sunny days and still-coolish nites. not quite like your weather yet but we're working on it. can't wait to read more but am still missing u. B
One added comment I just thought: about our first trip,to England, and navigating the roads, while one is on the 'wrong'side.
My Dad was drivingand Mom was in the shotgun seat. Well, she was most vocal, regarding his driving, and the nearness of the side of the road. Well,we all survived. Stay well.
motorcycles and amulets Maybe the amulet is to protect you on moving vehicles and not against bad food or water. You might want to keep it on.
ANy sightings of the Vestal Virgin in Kathmandu?
Do the young Tibetans wear traditional garb or is it jeans and western attire?

WTF aladdine??? i could have billed 2.4 hours, but instead i read your post.
good stuff. also, i think what you're trying to say is that 40 year olds are pretty friggin old and shouldn't be allowed to go about with the hiking and such. i mean, look at namgyal--he didn't get very far.
Buses, taxis & Motorcyles You certauinly have had the adventure of a lifetime-Several in fact.We are about to go; From Spring to Summer,in 24 hrs. Over the week0end,we will have record temperatures-nearly so,in the eighties. It is 53 right now.
Stay well.

Oh my indeed! Oh my! I was getting motion sick just reading this. You need a fly swatter to deal with annoying seatmates. A little "whack, whack" now and then to keep them on their side of the seat.
That or a stun gun. That could be entertaining for everyone- liven up the trips a bit.
Keep on traveling Ali!
hey kid! glad to hear you're still trekkin'. have finally made it past tax season myself and have a few days off and your message came in to my home computer so as a bonus i was able to catch up on your adventures. sounds like by the time you get home you'll be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! or at least take mt washington by storm. take care of yourself, stay well and where do u want me to send those AAA batteries?
Glad you're sll right Dear Aladdine,
After not seeing any posting, omn the blog, was concerned you fell down a crevass. You are seeing many things, which folks(Americans) don't have the time,or initiative to do. Stay well.
Alladine, envy Of course we read this with joy and relish - but no hot dogs :-)
Those moments with nothing to do, no outside stimulation, Aye, Lassie, 'tis meditiation that calls thee'. That's a quote from the Dali O'lama.
Sounds so wonderful and glad you are well. Just in case you hadn't heard the BoSox won the opener and Beckett looked great (except a soft 3rd inning) Pedroia pops a homer at his first at bat and Varitek pops one too just to let everyone know "i'm still hee-uh"
Trek on and be there.
Namaste,
jeff and janni
