Theme Park Walls
They were built to stop the cambodians from having access to the sweet precious waterparks of Vietnam... Howdy, hello from Saigon, well, hello from me in Saigon, but im sure the rest of Saigon would bid you greetings too if they were writing, and then probably try to entice you into a tailors, flog you fake dvds(that recently don't seem to work mostly) or tempt you with delicious savoury snacks at the same time...hope everybody is well
Life here is all good. A couple of fridays ago i went to Saigon ink to start a new load of tattooing off on my left arm. As a result a load of people at work have been asking what they i think of the place, i guess cos getting inked in this part of the world is not without its risks.
The place i went to was sweet, the guy who drew me up was pretty good, although it was weird being tattoeds for three hours by three different tattooists, i was happy with the work but my arm was bruised to shit afterwards, so much so that i could barely make the tattoo out for a day or two til my bruise yellowed...it was also a pretty clean joint. However, its Vietnam so obviously both you and the
tattooist could smoke during...
The following Sunday i went to the charidee pub quiz mate. I was a bit reticent about going cause last time it was a bit serious for my pub quiz sensibilities, however, following a fairly gruelling, as far as i was concerned, 4 rounds of 'children's literature', 'science', 'something else i can't remember' and 'north american cities' my so far lagging team hit paydirt with '80's movie themes', although that was not without a hitch...my contribution, 'Its from Rocky 3 for fuck's sake' (corresponding question on a postcard quiz fiends....)
Anyway, to cut a long pub quiz short, we won. As it was Easter sunday, we won cadbury's quiz eggs and a bottle of vanilla smirnoffwhich we proceeded to drink out of the trophy..if it had had a little lid i'd have worn it on my head a la Sol Campbell in some cup win photograph...the creme eggs came at just the right time, they were sweet like shanks and bigfoot..The next day Paddy moved out (the win and the move are unrelated)
The lease was up on the house and Iris and Marcus moved in along with their vicious 8 month old
tabby cat (who as a i write this has strangely appeared, as if to say 'youre not slagging me and callin me vicious are you, i only scratched you once and that was cause you picked me up you twat')..' they are downstairs on Paddy's floor of the house and so far, what with work patterns haven't seen much of them. Iris is a teacher who has just departed my work to teach German i think..and Marcus is a cocktail thrower/bartender at some fancy restaurant uptown...and Bruna is their cat..they are all from Austria and are very nice. It's weird, in the space of ten months i've gone from living in a hotel, to living in a house with an 11 yr old, to sharing with said eleven years old's boatbuilding cock flashing dad, to living with an Austrian mixologist.....
T'other day i got confirmation that my job in Hanoi is happening. I start at the end of July, so will be finishing here in Saigon at the end of June, a few weeks somewhere, most likely malaysia and singapore, then gonna train it back up through Vietnam to my new job...which is gonna be pretty much the same
paddling bear
the zoo at the theme park was good, lots of asian animals i'd never seen before and they seemed healthy and happy....at least as zoo animals can as my current one, same company, but much smaller school. Im looking forward to the four seasons myself (the weather kind, not a bunch of old blokes pissed off with Frankie Valli). I also booked my flight home for december, see most of you then i expect...xmas away from home aint the same to be honest, as fun as it is..and by the time i get back the latest member of my crew will have arrived...
Last Monday i went on the works trip to Mui Ne beach. It was pretty good, lovely resort, free beer, food and rooms...i got pretty smashed, then spent the next day or so lounging round mui ne, enjoying being out of the city...was really hoping to play golf there, the course looked amazing,(its a faldo or montgomery designed one) but by the time we'd have payed for green fees, club hire, buying some golf clothing (camo shorts and a terminator t-shirt are not acceptable golf wear in mui ne, apparently) it would have set me back about $120 so it never happened..shame, still,
This week coming up, i have a stag-do tomorrow evening, some golf on Monday (where said terminator t-shirt is accepted), a public holiday midweek which means days off, and Mark's wedding on Friday..theres also a shakespeare company in town so gonna go see about some theatre tickets..it's Romeo and Juliet...God i hope it's Frank Bruno playing Juliet, with Linda Lusardi as a busty crumpetesque Romeo, as i'm sure the good bard intended....
and with that thought in your mind, i'll leave you be... take care...
