Hi it's Vickie writing the entry today.
Hoi An
When we arrived in Hoi An we were just amazed with the place instantly. Its like a little french town, really pretty and quaint. All of the buildings and architecture was so lovely and it had a river running through it with really great restaurants and bars you could sit at and admire the view (and people watch!)
You can also get really reasonable priced dinners at the street stalls, our favourite was Cao Lao which is noodles, pork, vegetables and nuts. YUMMY!
There is a beach 4 kilometers away from the town. We hired bikes one day and headed down there.
The beach was really nice and we had a great lunch there! The ride back was pretty scary as we hit rush hour but we made it back in one piece.
Hoi An is also famous for tailoring and there are shops everywhere. I went to one which was recommended by our hotel and got a suit made out of cashmere and also two shirts for a total of 60 pounds! Now you couldn't get that at home!
Its really good as obviously I will need something
to wear for interviews when I get back and I dont think I could have bought something that nice and tailored to me from Next!
Nha Trang
We then headed down to Nha Trang where we were only planning on staying for a few days but I had been in contact with Becky Marsh (from work) who was travelling through Veitnam as well.
Becky wasn't getting into Na Trang until 25th so we decided to stay on longer as it would have been such a shame to miss her by a couple of days.
In Nha Trang itself there isn't that much to do apart from go to the beach so we basically did that most of the time. We read that you could get a cable car to another island so on one of the days we went on a mission, we walked for about 2 hours trying to find the cable car or the ferry port to take you over but we couldn't find either so us being us gave up and went to the beach!
There is a bar in Nha Trang called the Why Not Bar, we went here a couple of times and
on one of the nights we were just about to leave then a couple from Australia called Marcel and Anna invited us over to their table so we ended up having quite a few bevvies with them and danced until the early hours. They even got Jack dancing which is a first!
We met up with Becky and her friend Holly. It was great to meet up with someone from back home and it also felt quite weird waiting outside our hotel in the middle of Vietnam for someone we know from Tunbridge Wells!!
We all went to the beach for the day to top up our tans and in the evening we went out for a bit of dinner and drinks at the Why Not Bar which was great!
Mui Ne
We caught a bus the day after meeting up with Becky and Holly to Mui Ne which is 5 hours south of Nha Trang and a lot more peaceful!
We had two days here and as you can guess we spent those two days on the beach. Jack wasn't so keen on the beach though because of all the building work going on and our book
said white sand beaches and clear blue water. It was a lot more rugged and untouched when we got there unlike Nha Trang but I prefered this much more. Also there was hardly anyone on the beach which was lovely!
Ho Chi Minh
We then headed down to Ho Chi Minh City for three days.
We went to the Cu Chi Tunnels where the Vietnamese hid from the Americans. It was amazing! I cant believe they lived like that for so long its crazy! We went down through one of the tunnels (The one that was made bigger for the westerners that is) and it was so cramped, hot and dark, quite scary really. Everyone came back out covered in sweat and dirt. Lovely!
They have a shooting range on the site also so Jack and I had a go on the AK47 which was wicked, quite expensive though.
On one of the days we went to a massive shopping mall where they have a cinema. We watched 'Watchmen' which was cool but we later found out that lots of parts had been cut out as it had scenes of the Veitnam war in it. Wondered why it
didn't make sense!
The next day we took a bus to our fifth country, Cambodia, which we'll write about in the next entry.
Lots of Love
Vickie & Jack
