Hello All
Well here we are in Saigon. It is soooo hot! We really noticed it when we got off the plane on Tusday night. We had a beaut trip over with Jetstar - managed to score seats near the exit door! Stretched the legs out and enjoyed! We thought it very Aussie when they served us meat pies with tomato sauce just before landing in Saigon - not your usual airline type meal!

We were late arriving and caught up for ages waiting to go through immigration. It seems lots of aircraft arrive around the same time in the evening so there was a huge backlog. Anyway once through grabbed a taxi and whizzed into town and there were Adele and Craig sitting outisde the bar with a beer (not Craig) waiting for us!

We headed out with Adele and Craig next day - their first time in Saigon - to show them a few sights. Did the markets, around the city centre and had a wonderful birthday lunch at the Sheriton buffet. It was nice to celebrate Rob's birthday with good friends in Saigon. Craig voted lunch as his best during their whole trip.

Had

a few ales and dinner at Allez Boo before Adele and Craig left for the Mekong and Cambodia.

We're staying at the Lan-Anh (where we always stay) - pictures attached. We think its pretty good value for $15 inc breakfast. Magenta, we are up on the 6th floor, at the opposite end to where you stayed last time.

We went around looking for prices for prescription glasses - most wanted $100-$125 US for Titanium frames. But we stumbled on a wholesale optometrist who makes all the glasses for the retail outlets in town - so we bought three pairs each at $30 each! How's that for value?

We have been dining in all our favourite restaurants - Quan On Ngon, Pho 24, Night Markets and put our heads in at the Temple Club. It is free to look! That's about all we could afford. You will all be pleased to hear that Rob managed to find his frogs legs at the Night Markets. Hence we have been back twice! Bloody good too they were he says.

We found our Cobratox! A very kind man from Sinh Cafe organised a ten tube purchase for us. Col, we

have enough Cobratox to last a lifetime.

Tomorrow, Monday, we are heading up to Nha Trang. We have stumbled into a busy holiday period (reumification day - which lasts a week... as one day holidays here seem to). Buses and accommodation are chokkas but we managed to get into our accom in Nha Trang.

We're looking forward to a swimming pool for the next 10 days - and Nha Trang Seafood restaurant.

Bye for now

Well as we said, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROB!!!! We love this blog it's so awesome to be able to see all your pics and stories as you travel! It's almost like being there! Except that here its cold and miserable and we're working not dining, drinking and exploring!!! Damn, russ wishes you could grab a prescription for him! He's blind... tee-hee! Just kidding- I think that was a temporary condition caused by too many beers on ANZAC day! Love you both, take care and have fun! xxx Russ and Amie and Benny xxx

Prescscription glasses
HI There We are heading to Vietnam in July, flying Jetstar into Ho Chi Minh city, so very interested in your experiences, might check out that hotel.. Re the prescription glasses, do you take your prescription from your own optometrist? Are you able to get progressive lenses made? How long does it take?
4th August 2008

where did you go for the glasses.
G'day. We are heading to Saigon November 2008 and would like to know where you shopped for your glasses. ??? regards Terrence

another person wondering about where you got your glasses?
Sorry to bother you! I'm heading out in 10 days and would love to know who that optometrist / wholesaler was and where to find it? I know you were there 2 years ago, but maybe you still remember? Cheers, and thanks!! Flo from France

Prescription glasses Saingon
Hello, I looked at your pictures and recognized several of the areas you visited in Saigon. We will be there in April and have 3 days there. Regarding the glasses, can you remember the name or the address of the place you got them at? I do have to get some and I do have the prescription what is needed. Would be grateful if you could let me know details ... cheers for now .... Best wishes to all, Bill Henderson
