Marble mountain, Da Nang, Vietnam
Showing the pergoda and the glass lifts Hi everyone.
Well what a last 24 hour we have had. We had to say goodbye to the resort after a great 3 days in Hoi An. We organised a private van and driver who collected us up at midday and drove us north to Da Nang again. We went to the Marble mountain which we had driven past before and seen the glass fronted elevator going up the side and believed we were going up to see the pergoda on the side on the mountain and that the lift was to save more steps. Oh boy were we wrong. Firstly yes you can take the elevator up the first section and walk around to the pergoda which we then found had many old stone steps to get into and out of then behind the pergoda was the entrance to a beautiful cave. Bryan and I went one way and Sheryl and Pauline went a different way as we all went a direction as far as we could each with the walking and steps. Bryan and I covered all caves and wow they were amazing. We climbed over rocky tracks some I had to get on my knees and climb
up with Bryan right behind me to push if I slipped. They crawling was not expected and there were some caves you couldn’t see unless you went totally off the gri. I was exhausted and coming out of some areas even 30yrs younger than us said they couldn’t do that. Ha ha if we had known before we started we might not have either but once you started it was got back the way we had already climbed or keep going knowing you had to come out at the top soon then it was all down hill.
Amazing photos. We had climbed for over an hour and decided we needed to work out a route of where and how to get out to the entrance to meet up with the girls. Eventually we came out and I was ready for collapsing, wrong shoes and clothes for what we had done and did it all before lunch so very hungry feeling faint. We took the lift down and found a local cafe over the road and decided on some local cuisine for lunch then we wandered back to our van and driver who took us on a short (very short)
tour around the city with no English he didn’t understand our questions then dropped us to the airport over an hour early. Oh well we were there with plenty of time and sat in the air conditioned cafe for drinks until we could check in an hour later only to find out our flight was delayed another half hour. So in total we were there 3.5 hours early. Nothing like being prompt ha ha ha. Arrived in Ho Chi Minh to different things we hadn’t seen. Nicer roads and more cars than motor bikes it seems and not to bad weather. Settled into the hotel ready for a good sleep. Chilling tomorrow.
Night Jo and Bryan
