Hello Blog (and maybe Mum and Clare who might read this 😊
This will be the record of our trip, if we can get to an internet place wherever we are 😊 and because my writing is so bad I won't be able to understand what i wrote as soon as i get back.
We made it to Vietnam!! It was a long trip, with clare so superbly dropping us off at the airport in her jammies very early sunday morning. 3hr flight to sydney, then the worst part... the 5hr wait in sydney airport. I thought we were meant to be at gate 50, so we went there, but then luckily Tim realised that it was the wrong one.... we are trying not to spend too much money, so we shared a lunch and by the time we boarded the plane we were starving.
Then onto the 9hr flight to Bangkok. yay for plane meals (which are awesome, so many little compartments), but must say British Airways in Tims words was little worn out and old. Tried to catch some zzz's, kept starting movies then stopping them. Then arrived in Bangkok!! yay!!! stepping out of the airport and sniffing in
the good ol asian air was great 😊 instantly remembered how much i love it here. Hotel shuttle picked us up, and we went down this really dodgy side street, Tim and i looked at each other, like what the F$%^&?!, but turned out alright 😊
Flew to Ho Chi Minh city next morning. Taxi dropped us at an alleyway and was like, your hotel is down there. Did not look that inviting.... but when we got to the end there was a cool little street with budget hotels. our hotel is really cool and really nice people.
Got settled then went for walk. Ended up at the biggest market.. tim spells it Ben Tang, which is completely wrong, but i don't know the correct way either......! We walked in and it was SO hot and muggy. We got jumped on straight away by shop owners, an we just sorta raced through the maze and found a place to buy a coke. Cool market but think we were too tired for it. When back to motel and checked emails. Tim was crashed out in the room when i went back in and he slept till 5am, so cute 😊
jet lag hit us.
Today we went to Cu Chi Tunnels. Its 200km of under ground tunnels built by the Viet Cong when the Americans invaded in the name of stopping communisim.......... hm...... Quite amazing. We went into one tunnell with about 8 people, and only 3 of us got to the end, the others freaked out and went back. You have to hunch over, and at times if Tim didn't have the torch it was completely black. Really claustrophobic, but so glad we did it, can't believe they lived under there. They even had a hospital under there. They would come up to get lots of oxygen usually at night when they couldn't be seen. They made some ninja as traps to catch Americans. Going to museum tomorrow so we are keen to learn more about this war. Its about 30degrees and raining quite abit at the moment. We both loving the food and Vietnam as a whole. Such an extreme contrast to NZ, hard to put into words what goes through your head as you see this country and meet its people. Feel completely bigoted when thoughts go through your head about what civilisation is and almost
subconsciously ranking countries accordingly, but completely in our Western thinking. This world is so big, and i hate when one culture believes their way is completely right and others should fit accordingly. We can learn so much from each other.
Anyways, going to get a massage, not the dodgy kind 😊
