The Cao Dai religion is a newish one, having started in 1926 as a mash-up of various existing systems, such as Confucianism, Catholicism, Buddhism, Shintoism, etc. There are about 2 million adherents and are found only in South Vietnam. Though they sided with the Americans during the American war, they are still allowed to practice their religion, as they have.
The restaurant we stopped at for lunch used fanciful tree houses as the eating area.
