So the next day after a bit of a hangover we went for breaky at our typical place, you cant go wrong with fresh baguettes and eggs for $1.50. After that I decided to try to do the responsible thing and attempt to finish my marketing report. The girls went out the beach and I stayed in an.... watch HBO LOL. I couldn't help it there was some pretty good shows on, I did attempt to start but failed miserably.
We met Katie and Scott for dinner at this one place renowned for its brownies, the only thing is they only had 1 and they also had no spring rolls. Decided to get some chili fries instead. It was a splurge I whole $3. The only thing is they brought out chili and rice! and it took them 45 minutes to get the correct deal. After that failed din din we went across the street to our first pick to get delicious pho! Authentic almost side of the road pho! Katie and Scott had to run they were catching their luxurious sleeper that was booked solid. We settled on the regular A/C which turned out to be a trip for
hell. We were in Nha Trang for about an hour and bit before they picked up everyone and the bus was packed! I mean people were standing, and this is a 12 hour bus ordeal. I swear they over sold the bus since the bus driver and the passengers were yelling at each other for a long time, I swear shit was going to hit the fan. One thing you would find our about transportation in Vietnam is someone always ends up blaring their music from their cell phone. I mean BLARING! Next time I'm going to buy some headphones for them.
After our journey from hell we were exhausted. We got some food at Treats a really cool restaurant located in between Treats 2 and Retreat LOL. We wondered how we were going to find Scott and Katie after they scored the sleeper bus but low and behold they found us. The girls and new guy Joel went to go check out a few places for us to sleep in when I noticed a mate by himself so I decided to see how Hoi An was treating him. Introducing Chris - a Vancouver Canuck that drinks way too
much coffee but is probably one of the funniest people I’ve met so far. After breaky we all agree to meet back for lunch. Then came suit shopping, Chris knew of this place nearby which was really cool. I ended up buy a suit and a shirt the first day. We did some more pursuing but the heat was actually unbearable. Went back after journeying thought the markets for a quick dip in the pool and a kip. Met up with everyone for dinner and found this really cool restaurant over the water, I tried some ‘White Rose’ which is basically dimsum, not the long skinny one or fat shrimp ones but somewhere in between (I have yet to find the deep fried ones) Also had fish in banana leaf and scallops, It was delicious! We went out for some drinks after but everyone was pretty wankered from the bus journey so we called it a night early - Joel went out to the beach bar though and said it was good...
The next day we found out about MJ’s death at breaky. A whole 6 hours after his death we were solicited with flyers about a tribute night,
I couldn’t believe they made it so fast... makes me feel they had something to do with it LOL. After breaky we went to check out our suits they looked quite spiffy if you ask me. I guess the guy that was sewing Scott’s suit was smoking cause there were some holes in the suit but he got it changed easily. Then came the rain, we weren’t going any fast so what happens. I end up buying another suit and couple more shirts - everyone was quite helpful with the colour decisions LOL. The rain couldn’t come at a better time it was boiling and it just felt so cool afterwards. We headed to lunch and then to more shopping this time I bought myself 6 ties GAH!. Lets just hope when I get back I’ll get a job that requires them . After another kip we headed out for din din, this time the tailor lady was joining us - she took us to this local place where she ordered tonnes of food (as the menu was all in Vietnamese) We had some frog legs and shrimp that were just a bit too much work - Chris sure had
a easy go at them! After dinner we headed to the MJ tribute night, there wasn’t too much MJ music but it worked. Me and Scott splurged and bought buckets for $4 - a tonne of vodka, red bull and pineapple juice. After some dancing on the dance floor where Scott DJ-ed we headed home in search of food. The town however was a ghost town we couldn’t find food anywhere. Then we had to say goodbye to our new found friends since we all had to leave the next day Such a proper night out. It’s surreal how people come into your life so suddenly that have such a big impact. Not to fear Canada Reunion has been set!
I was obviously in a rush in the morning - something about having to catch a flight/pack/ship things just doesn’t always work for me. Well I got my new suit and it looked spiff realised I got 2 of the same shirts just with different collars (typical). Then came the bill 2 suits and 7 shirts came to $230 US then to ship it came another $95... Should have waited Scott got to ship his suit for $10
. Oh well *hopefully* lesson learnt. Got to the airport with record time remaining - exactly 2 minutes before they close check in! WOO! Scored myself a whole row in Emergency Aisle to myself and took a kip cause the flight was only 1 hour sure beats 26 hours on bus.
I’ll update you on Saigon to Cambo soon
