So we arrived in Na Trang the overnight bus just left us in this random car park on the beach front and typically there were more touts then there were passengers trying to get us to stay in their hotel! Thankfully we had our hotel booked and figured from our map that it wasn’t too far to walk.
We were staying in the Thang Long Nah Trang Hotel, which was only newly built I think we were the 1st people to stay in our room. The room was really nice and big with two huge double beds, G won rock, paper, scissors so Debbie and I ended up sharing!
Na Trang is a really nice place it’s like a big town that has the balance just right between Asian and Western, it caters to tourists but isn’t full of hawkers all the time! We basically spent the four days on the beach. There was a “resort” (it didn’t have rooms though) on the beach called The Sailing Club, which was a really up market bar/restaurant that had beach beds which you could rent for the day and security to keep the hawkers away J. At night it
was a really lively spot that served Jam Jars, Vietnams equivalent to the Bucket, and had really good live DJs. On the first night two Ozzy blokes came over to chat to us, they seemed harmless enough, but by the end of the four days we were a bit sick of them. They were pretty dull and didn’t seem to take the hint that we were not interested and to leave us alone!
The food in The Sailing Club was amazing too, I got this pizza that had caramelized onions, pine nuts, and brie on a really thin base! It was one of the nicest pizzas any of us have ever had! The only problem with the Sailing club was it was really expensive so on other nights we ate at Echo & Lucas, Echo is Chinese, Luca is Italian, together they make beautiful food J and we went to Lanterns one night too which was nice. For lunch on two of the days we to this ice cream shop that did an American breakfast for €2 there was so much food in it or the best waffles/pancakes with ice cream. We had breakfast included in our
rate at the hotel but it was terrible, like they managed to make toast wrong???
The most exciting thing that happened in Na Trang was G getting sunstroke! On the one night that there was a big beach party and we had all gotten really dolled up and were looking forward to it, she made it to dinner but just after she almost passed out then only made it as far as the hotel reception before nearly passing out again and giving the receptionist such a fright. Debbie and I stayed with her for a while but then she made us go the party without her. Turns out it wasn’t what we expected at all, it was obviously more for locals then tourists all traditional music and what not!
G did make friend with a Scooby Doo lookalike though, his name was Bono and he was massive. You wouldn’t fit him in our backpacks never mind a hand bag but he was awesome.
We had booked to stay 4 nights with agoda and then decided we wanted to stay another night but then realised we were being charged an extra bed supplement, but there wasn’t an extra
bed in our room, Debbie and I were sharing, and we had paid more than a nights’ accommodation for this phantom extra bed so somehow or another Debbie managed to make them let us stay for one more night “for free” because we had already paid it for the extra bed we never got! Woop
So on our last day in Na Trang we thought we should do some sight seeing, we went to the Po Nagar Cham Towers and the Long Son Pagoda and seated Buddah. Oh and a catholic church that was pretty nice, Debbie decided to stay for mass all the women sat on one side and the men on the other and the place was packed they were sitting outside on stools there were literally hundreds of people going to mass, which was nice to see.
We loved Na Trang and we were headed to Mui Ne next which according to the book was better than Na Trang, less tourists/hawkers and better beaches, so we are really looking forward to it.
Next stop Mui Ne J
