Vietnam was pretty awesome, cant really explain what it is like as its just so out there. We stayed in an awesome resort in Da Nang, which is an hours flight from Hanoi the main city.
The first day we were there we went on a tour of Da Nang, we had a call from the tourist people asking if we were still ok to go since it was raining a little bit, we said it was fine, we will be in a bus or van so wouldnt be a problem, but then Quang (our tour guide for all our trips) rocked on up with a helmet on, so it was obvious from that point as to why they called us asking if we were still ok for the tour. So anyways, we were taken around on the bikes through Da Nang, and it was really amazing to see how they lived. I did think on many occasions that I was going to get taken out by the crazy drivers, every one rides on motorbikes and scooters and there are hardly any cars around but thousands of people on scooters etc, and I believe there is no such thing as
road rules. So that was quite an exciting experience anyways.
The second day we went to a place called Hoian which we were taken to see the process of silk being made and that was really cool. There was a really cool little shop out the back and I got myself a tailor made silk dress which was delivered to the resort the following day. Then we went and saw how they made lantens and these cool wood carvings. Then we were taken to some markets and a temple all and all it was a great day!
The next day we went to the Marble mountains, there are five mountains all which represent, Water, Earth, Fire, Wood and Metal. We went up the Water mountain. It was pretty amazing and Quang carried Joe Joe up all the 280 steps (not that much but were very steep) so Joe was in heaven there, I carried up Ari so adding anohter 8kgs to the walk in that heat was rather hot =) On the mountains there were caves that we went exploring in, I heard these noises and to me they sounded like bats but I pushed that thought to
the back of my head and soldiered on, however I was correct in thinking that they were bats and when I raised my camera to the roof with the flash light I almost had heart failure as the roof was covered in bats!! I am not good with swarms of things, if there was a few that would be ok, but not when there are millions of them. So exciting as it was for Joe I just got over it and carried on pretending that there was no bats anywhere =)
Then the next morning I went diving first thing in the morning. It was just so amazing, it was awesome! I felt like I was on the animal planet watching a show, but I was really there. I cant even begin to explain the beauty and just pure "awesomeness" of the underwater world, the coral reefs and every thing were just out of this world! So I will def be venturing to get my dive cert at some point of my life. Only problem was cause I was a rookie diver, I found it hard with the pressure on my ears and sometimes it felt like my ears
were about to explode! But fully worth it.
Anyways, that was the tours we did in a very short version, we couldnt do any of the other tours as they were not appropriate for the little ones!
So we just cruised around and swam and chilled out for the next few days. It was unfortunate as the weather was not all that great for us but all round was good.
Now we are back in Hong Kong for the next week. We meet up with mum tonight and she leaves again tomorrow and then we meet up with the whole famdamle in Beijing in a weeks time. So will be cool seeing mum, Jacky, Stacy and Vicky over the next few days.
Oh and P.S was at the airport in Vietnam today, and there was a tour full of kiwis there, and since I have not heard a kiwi accent from people we have not known in the past 8 weeks, I have to admit, we do have a very very strange accent!!!
haha.
Ciao for now.
