Tuesday 25 May Cat Ba Island, Halong Bay. Its 6.00 am, and the noises of Vietnam have already had me awake for 30 minutes. Crossing from China to Vietnam, nothing marks the differential as much as the noise at the start of the day. Boy, this was good. We all needed this. Cat Ba Island. $8 for an hour.

Molly tried for a day to get us here, based on a broachure she had seen...... so we went.. Careful what you wish for. Run down, dirty beach, nobody else swimming. The brochure was shot a few years ago

The bruise on the forehead, is the remnant of a scalding hot bamboo end, applied to the forehead to supress / cure a cold or flu. Its endemic. The question is, does it work?

josep broz, known as Tito, was a war hero and later president of Yugoslavia, he was the only eastern europe communist leader who was not overwhelmed by the soviet juggernaut, but remained free, and I'm speculating thats why he was able to visit Vietnam and have an island named after him, dont think the puppet presidents of Hungary, Poland, East Germany etc would have been able to do that! One of my uncles, and therefore a cousin of Bernard, was a partizan and killed by the Germans in WW2, I guess you could say Tito was his Boss!
