The bus ticket is from $10 to $18 for one person. They will drop you in the central of Hanoi or hotels in Hanoi Old Quarter. Then it is very easy to take a night train to Lao Cai or catch a bus which runs on the highway.

Sapa is about 223 km from Mai Chau but in the reality, the road distance is over 380 km. It is quite far and rough.
