A day we will never forget...
Today we were picked up from our hotel by Richard's driver and taken out to the seaway. We were greeted by Megumi and not long after Alex (owner of the catamaran) buzzed in to the shore in his dinghy to pick us up.
There were 12 of us on the trip (+ staff) and we split up into 2 groups to get taken out to the boat.
Once we were on the boat we were given the run down by Richard as to what we would be doing for the day. As it was also Earth day we were asked if we would help by picking up any rubbish we saw out in the ocean when snorkeling. The water was a bit choppy and we weren't sure what the weather would do later in the day.
Seasickness pills were offered to us and Shan put her hand up for one. :P
As we headed out unfortunately Shan started to get pretty seasick (she does get motion sickness) and looked a little green around the gills. Both of us were sailing virgins and the motion is something new
to us, making me a bit sick too.
We headed out to Racha Yai Island off the southern coast of Phuket and approx 2 hours after departure we entered the bay and calmer waters.
We were all very eager to get into the water and I was hoping the water would be full of fish to photograph with my underwater camera.
Shan snorkeled too even though she was still feeling quite sick. I later found out she was almost vomiting into her snorkel!!!! LOL
The snorkeling was good here but unfortunately my underwater case for my camera fogged up, making it almost impossible to take a clear photo. I did snap a few however with mixed results.
When we were done we boarded the boat again to get ready for lunch.
Both Shan and myself were sick in the toilet..LOL, luckily for me my stomach settled a bit afterwards and 10 minutes later I was eating Thai curry for lunch!!!
Richard and Megumi had prepared a delicious thai lunch for us all, they precook it early in the morning before the trip. I wasn't too sure how my stomach would like curry at
the moment but I ate some and thankfully was fine. Shan was unable to eat at this time but later had some fruit.
After lunch was packed up we zipped around into the next bay and Alex tied up the boat. The waters here were amazing and there were heaps of fish.
Luckily one of the other passengers on board let me use some of his antifog for my camera case and it was now perfect!!! I took quite a few good pics and thorughly enjoyed myself, diving down up to about 10 metres at times to snap a pic amongst the coral. Some clownfish took a liking to my camera when I dived down to meet them.
This was certainly a snorkeling trip I would never forget. Shan was not up to going back in the water, she sat in the cabin of the boat and relaxed in the shade.
When we were all back on the boat we packed up the gear and headed back towards Phuket. The wind picked up on the way back and we got up a fair bit of speed. The water was smoother and the ride was much better,
Shan started to feel better again (poor Shan). The girls had given her some Orange peel to sniff, this is apparently to help seasickenss too and seemed to work well.
There was a short downpour where we all took cover in the cabin of the boat - all except Richard who enjoyed the strong winds and shower!! LOL. I remember him looking to the sky and yelling out "is that all you've got !"
Not far from Phuket we anchored up and had a fantastic dinner of Spaghetti Bolognese, Potato Salad, normal salad and garlic bread. Shan and I sat out on the front of the boat, eating our meal while watching the sun slowly go down.
We sailed back into the bay just as the sun was leaving the sky, I snapped a few good photos.
Once the sun had gone down, those that had preorganised with Megumi, lit and let go of their Fire Balloons with Richards assistance.
All in all we had a great day, even though Shan had felt off colour for some of the trip. It is certainly a trip I would recommend to anyone that likes snorkeling, specially as
the spots we were taken to were the best I have ever seen.
We got back to our hotel at about 8pm, both exhausted but happy.

The pics came out really well, and I'd have loved to have seen the sights you saw.......but do not, and I mean DO NOT, envy you the sea sickness one little bit :/
