Ok, i'm back as we've decided the best way to catch up is to get 2 computers and both work on the blogs.
After a nice leisurly 2 hour boat trip in the sun (this time with no one being ill luckily) we arrived in Au Nang and saw straight away it was a much smaller resort which was what we were after. We went with a guy to see his "garden bungalows" which ended up being disgusting with loads of mold growing on the walls- yuck! He told us everywhere was full and we wouldnt be able to find anywhere better, but we decided to risk it. Ended up walking 3 mins down the road and got a very nice hotel room minus the mold.
It was only about midday so decided to hit the beach and work on the tan. Spent a few hours soaking up the rays while trying to get comfy on our v small towels (we have decided to wait untill oz to get some beach towels as until we send a parcel home in Singapore we have no space in our bags for them!) I just happened to look behind us
at one point and noticed these huge black clouds coming our way, at this point us and the rest of the beach packed up and headed back v quickly to our hotel. We got back just in time and the rest of the day was extremely wet so we had a bit of an afternoon nap and watched a few movies (thank god for star movies which we've been able to watch in most countries). Decided on a cheap tea of Phad Thai and a bannana pancake from street stalls (cost about 2 pounds), yummy.
The next morning the sun was out and we decided to get a long boat to Railay beach which took about 15 minutes. Now this beach looked alot better; turquoise sea, white sand and a cliffs surrounding it. We had read that there were 2 sides to the beach, the west was where all the expensive resorts are and the east is for back packers. Obvioulsy where we arrived was on the west so we walked over to the east which was only about 5 minutes and started looking for somewhere to stay. The first place we came to looked ok so
???????????
note the very black cloud coming over, 2 mins later we got soaked! Gra had a look while I stayed with the bags and he came back shaking his head describing it as very similar to the garden bungalow we'd seen the day before. So I stayed with the bags and he went in search of somewhere else- we have found this to be a good idea when looking for accomadation, makes it a lot quicker and gra doesnt have to put up with me moaning about how heavy my bag is!! He came back about 20 mins later and said there was only one other place which was a little bit better, but there were loads of mosquitoes which is no good for me as they'd been trying to eat me alive. So unfortunatly we had to stay where we originally looked- I nearly cried when i saw the room so we got dressed as quick as we could and went back to the beach on the west side and spent the afternoon there. As you can see i have included quite a few photos of a sunset 'again', but it really was amazing and we got it just before the rain started!
Obvioulsy we wanted to spend as little time
in the room as possible so we dragged out dinner in the resorts restaurant (which was actually v nice) and luckily they put a Nicolas Cage film on so we stayed and watched that. When we did return to our room I noticed alot of the stains on the sheets which was horrible so we slept in our own sleep sheets and just prayed for morning to come quickly!!!
That was the end of the beaches in Thailand, which to be honest didn't live up to expectations and I doubt we'll go back. The next morning we made our way to Had Yai, which is on the mainland and near the Malaysian border. When we arrived we asked the guy in the tourist office for some reccomendations for hotels, the first few were abit grubby so we upped our budget and asked him again, this time he sent us to a really nice 5* hotel which was a baragin at 11 pounds a night. The room was great, nice comfy bed we even had a bath- heaven! We were only planning on staying in had Yai 1 night but after spending about 10 minutes in the room we
decided to extend it to 2 just to make the most of the hotel.
We went for a bit of a walk around in the afternoon, theres not really much to do in Had Yai except for a few shopping centres so we just wasted the afternoon looking around them. That evening we headed out for food and decided on a place listed in the lonely planet and we are so glad we did- it was probably our best night in Thailand! The food was great, the beer was cheaper than the rest of Thailand and they had an excellent band on singing mostly english songs. The most amusing event of the night was when Gra went to the gents and had a hot towel put around his neck WHILE he was going to the loo, then a neck massage whilst washing his hands- his face was a picture when he came back to the table! At about 1am we decided we had better head back to the hotel and get some sleep.
The next day i was feeling alittle bit tender, but the buffet breakfast at the hotel was amazing and did help. Again we
didnt really do much except for booking our bus to Kuala Lumper the next day and a flight over to Borneo on the 27th. We had our last meal in Thailand at Pizza hut which was quite amusing after nearly having an arguement with the manager about how many drinks we'd had. Then we went back to the hotel to pack and to get a goodnight sleep before heading into Malaysia........
