What a great weekend!! Lots of fun and adventure at Railay Beach!! First, we went to the orphan school in Krabi town, which is about 30 minutes away, on Saturday morning, to volunteer at the English morning class/group for teenagers 13-16, the same orphan school that we went to last Saturday. Sang the song, "You are my sunshine" with Rob accompaning on his guitar, very nice, then visited and helped them with their matching worksheet of opposites. Some of the girls were helping me learn more Thai words, while some of the boys were jamming with Rob on his guitar, lots of fun and very rewarding too! The girls tend to get attached very easily, and two of them told me that they loved me and the one started getting teary-eyed when she found out that next Saturday is the last day of their English program, before holiday, and said she was only going to see me one more time, and gave me a huge hug, in which I hugged her back, many times before we left. So caring and loving!! Then we headed back here to the Aonang School on our motor bike, packed up for a little getaway, and
Kayak break
Found a nice, secluded beach when sea kayaking hopped on a long tail boat to go to Railay Beach which is only a 10-15 minute ride, to a beautiful place!! Absolutely gorgeous! We stayed at West Railay Beach and found a room at the Sand Sea Resort, for only $40 US, included access to the beach, pool, restaurant, and the room had a fan, a real mattress, and a hot water shower!! YEAH!! Our first hot water shower since we have been here! It was amazing! We went kayaking around these huge cliffs in the water and found a remote, secluded beach, in which Rob went snorkeling and I took some more photos trying to capture the beauty that surrounded us (surprise, surprise)! Then we headed back to West Railay in our sea kayaks and relaxed on the beach as we watched the sunset. We enjoyed a traditional Thai meal at the resort's beach front, open restaurant, candle-lit dinner, great atmosphere and food! We woke up this morning, enjoyed a beach front breakfast, then went exploring. Found a cave which was marked, but was only able to walk around it, not in it, however he did come across some unmarked territory and went on quite an adventure. All
we saw from the walkway was a rope, covered in mud (it rained over night, but great weather during the day) came from somewhere up, but we couldn't see where, so we wanted to find out. Boy, where we in for a rock climbing experience without any guides, safety rope, harness, nothing, but mud, some rocks and old rope! YIPPEE!! We ascended then came to a fork in the somewhat off beaten path, headed left and came to an incredible overlook of West Railay and East Railay (see picture). Enjoyed some time there, then went back to the right part of the fork in the road and found some intense vertical rocks, all going down to a lagoon, somewhere, couldn't see it, but heard it was there. Met some people along this path from Germany and Switzerland, and the one German girl, has rock climbed before, so she kindly told us some good tips and showed us the way. Still no harness or safety equipment. She was very helpful and her personality and looks reminded us of you Natalie, so we have nick-named our new friend "German Natalie" hehhe!! The last 3 descents were the most challenging by far, thank
goodness for long arms and legs, and prayers! We made it!! WHEW!! Drenched in sweat, covered in mud, heart pounding like crazy, so exhilirating, adreline pumping, legs shaking all at the same time!! Quite the rush!! Jumped in the lagoon, ahhhh, our treasure at the end of our journey, then returned the same way (only one way in and one way out of the lagoon), safely and soundly, which was actually easier than the trip there, covered again in mud and sweat, got to love the great outdoors and adventure!! YAHOO!! It was amazing! An incredible rock-climbing, trekking, hiking, swimming, intense experience, all for free, because we wanted to know what was at the end of the rope! WOW!! So cool! We jumped in the sea afterwards and tried to clean up the mud as best as possible, found out that sand is a wonderful, natural exfoliater to remove the dark red/brown clay mud that was caked to us. Had a great beach front lunch, enjoyed a banana milkshake, headed for the shower and packed up. Got on a long tail boat ride back and here we are! We had such a blast at the beautiful place, so much adventure,
Our family
hehe! While exploring West Railay and the Phrang Nang Bay (cave area), we unexpectedly saw 2 of our students, who found us first, "Hello teacher! Robert!" We think they are brothers, one is in third grade and the other in second grade. So cute! but relaxation too! The best of both worlds! Hopefully more adventures to come! We'll keep you posted! Hope all is well with everyone! Love to all!
