from Phuket Town to Patong to Kata...
Phuket Town. Nothing much going on there. I small dingy town with a quite atmosphere. We attempted to complete our reenactment of "The Beach" by staying in the actual hostel that Leo stayed in but as he stated in the movie, it was a complete pile. We opted out of that room and made our way to the next place, no movie stars, no history, just a decent room and a cot for me. not bad. We didn't stick around long because nothing was too cool here. So we made our way to Patong, the only place that compares to Bangkok with the prostitution. Once again in a heavily tourist area with a beach nearby hookers and ladyboys own the night. You can walk more than a block before you get harassed by a guy selling fake suits or a hooker trying to sell other things. It was pretty bad here...at one point i made Krista hold both mine and Jeff's hands to keep the girls away. At first it is funny and doesn't bother you...but when they become overwhelming by grabbing you and not letting go or yelling things at you as
Thai beach ballers!
i always enjoy a good match at sunset you walk by such as..."i take care of your friend...why your friend no have girlfriend?!" ...it gets old.
We tried our best to get motivated to go out but the bars full of hookers and maybe one old creepy guy, it didn't really appeal to us. Halloween was a joke. I saw on person dressed up the whole night. We had costume ideas ready to go if was going to be fun...but it wasn't so we stayed in our room admitting that we were sick and shouldn't be going out anyway. As the night went on my stomach got worse and i think we made the right choice to stay in.
After Halloween and the let down that this town was we decided to move on. We went to the only beach in Thailand that you can actually surf. Kata Beach. We were all ready to get back to a nice clean beach with waves. We spent a few days in the sun and surf. We rented boards from a stand on the beach and had a blast. The waves weren't any good but we made due.
One of the days Krista even got out in the
water and surfed as well. It was her birthday, and in between massages, manicures, pedicures and relaxing on the beach she made time to drop into a few waves. That night Jeff and Krista went out to a nice Dinner and we met up after for some drinks. We hung out at a small bar called the Ska Bar but it was really just another reggae bar. It was a fun little spot on the beach with fire dancers and stiff drinks. Good enough for us and a good day for her.
The next few days we planned to stay here where we can watch the election news and then head to Malaysia when all is said and done. Turns out that is exactly what we did. Krista and i both ended up getting really sick. She started off worse than i was and while i was laying in bed for a full day she spent her time in the bathroom. The next day we switched places and as she got better i got worse. I spent the last 3 days in Thailand in bed or in the bathroom. Nothing would stay down and in about a 48 hour
period i was able to eat a single slice of bread and half of a quesadilla. Not good.
Tomorrow we leave for Malaysia and our stay here in Thailand comes to an end. No last night celebration because we are still on the fritz from the flu. But we have had our fair share here. Thailand is a beautiful place with a million fun things to do. Unfortunately it is not the most Eco friendly country in the world so if you want to see Thailand's beauty before it is destroyed you might want to hurry. Or maybe get a "green" Thailand in the works somehow. But honestly, this place is stunning and i have been able to experience some amazing things here...beautiful beaches...scuba diving...madness that is Bangkok...a motorless island like Phi Phi... all Amazing! I will be back someday.
till next time.
