We set our alarm clock the night before and thought we would take a nap and then went out for a few beers before we hit the sack again, but we actually slept through the night and woke up the next morning. It was lovely to open our hotel room door with the garden view right in front of us. In Phuket, different colors of orchids can be seen everywhere. They even plant them with coconut shell on the palm trees. I think that is pretty neat!
Our assignment today was to get our day tour to James Bond Island booked. I had read from Virtualtourist before the trip and someone recommended booking day tours through Carolina's Tour next to Banana disco, so we set off early but walked around the whole block without seeing any sign of Carolina's. I ended up shopping crazy in a small clothing shop instead. At first I was looking for a sarong. I read from the local English magazine saying it is considered rude to wear bikini anywhere else off the beach. That's why I thought a sarong would come in handy. But then I also ended up buying a skirt and a dress.
I think the Thai silk is incredible material and it is perfect for its hot sizzling weather! All together it was 900 bahts. Sean thought I paid too much. Ouch!
It was still early after shopping so we decided to go for a real Thai massage. Massage stores are everywhere and the ladies are always sitting outside. Whenever you walk by, they would keep saying "massage massage massage" - three times. We were wondering if saying it by three times was actually a hint for anything or not. We picked one that looked clean to us (but who knows). It was pretty ladies who greeted us, however, when the massage ladies showed up, they were just big fat older ones. That didn't bother us that much though except that they massaged you with their bare feet without putting on clean socks. Hmmm, not so sure about that! They massaged you from toe to face to head without washing their hands before working on your face either. So honestly I wasn't so crazy about getting massage after that. The price was reasonable though - 300 bahts for my Thai massage and 400 for Sean's oil massage. When we went of
the store, we saw the greeting ladies were gone and now it was a few ladyboys sitting there. Obviously these hadn't got their surgeries completely done yet as their boobs were still completely flat. Oops, wondering if the ones who massaged us were actually boys or girls.
We tried a few day tour vendors and found out the day tour we wanted (Pang Nga Bay/ James Bond Island/Kai Island) was the most expensive ones among all day tours. We talked about going to Phi Phi Island before too but dropped that idea as it would be just another island and beach, but James Bond Island is more scenic. Most James Bond Island tour came with canoe and elephant ride without having lunch at the famous on-water fish village at Koh Panyi Island. We were not interested in the canoeing or the elephant ride but were amazed by the fish village. We also wanted to do some snorkling too. Only one tour company - Phuket Adventure has that combination and that's why its price is so high. We finally got a good bargain at our own hotel's agency for 2400 bahts a person. That was one thing taken care of
from our to-do list. We celebrated it by going to the shopping mall's ice-cream place for an ice-cream fondu lunch.
Back to the beach after lunch. We were greeted by so many people asking if we wanted to rent their chairs but we tried to look for the same guy we rented from the day before. He actually showed up in front of us with big smile. He recognized us and was so happy we came back looking for him. The waves today were a lot bigger ones compared to yesterday. I was hit quite bad by a few as they went way above me. From what we read on the magazine, it is not legal to go topless on Patong beach, but we actually saw a few women walk or jog by topless. Oh yeah, saw a man in thong too. Well, somebody's got the gut and nice butts to show off in that!
Sun bathing on the first day felt great but from the 2nd day, we started to feel burned on certain spots. Honestly I didn't feel the sun that much because of the breeze but it did burn you silently. When we went back
to the hotel for shower, when the water hit on my shoulders I could feel it hurt a lot already! And the bikini mark was already on my body on the 2nd day. Obviously SPF 12 only protected you from getting burned for one day. No wonder I read online everyone suggested go with higher SPF, but some stupid one told me to go with lower one on our first day in Phuket.
Since we didn't see the great sunset on the first day because of heading south, we decided to go for north this time to back off a bit to get the whole sky view. Our dinner was at Patong Bay Garden Resort. We read that it was a romantic place right on the beach - perfect for watching the beach and sunset. And it was right, there were only a few tables but they were all on the beach where you can take your shoes off and feel the sands. The view there was gorgeous. We managed to have a wonderful and colorful view although we still couldn't see the sun because it was blocked by the hills, but the view was so much better than
the one we got from the first night. The food was ok and service was ok but it is definitely worth paying for a sunset dinner on the beach. I think it is one of the very few restaurants that are actually sitting on the beach, while most others were across the beach street.
We went back to the mall for ice-cream again after dinner. Man, we love that place, don't we! We also walked around and checked out lobster price since we both LOVE lobster. Most of the places on the beach road were like 200 bahts/100g. We read on Virtualtourist someone got it for only 60 bahts/100g in Phuket town so we tried to hold until we got the chance to go downtown.. However.. when we went back to the hotel, we couldn't wait and ordered a tiny lobster cocktail for 140 bahts.
Once again we hit our dreams with big tummies loaded with food!
