Ao Tonsai
Ths is where we stayed for 3 luxurious nights in what could be considered Paradise. Accessible only by boat or walking over the rocks at low tide from West Rai Leh. We finally arrived in Krabi 16 hours later at around 11 on saturday morning. Our guesthouse was nice and in a good area. We just chilled out on our first day, went to the market etc.
On Sunday we decided to head for the beach so we went to Ao Nang. The beach itself is lovely but it was very touristy and pretty tacky. We only stayed for a couple of hours as we didn't like it much and the tide came right in so we got soaked trying to sit on the beach. We headed back to Krabi town and went out on a boat trip along the river. It's very pretty with mangroves along the side. We stopped at a really big cave where we saw a long green snake and also lots of crabs with one huge claw! There were lots of bats and staligmites and staligtites. On the way back we saw a huge sea eagle-the boat driver told us that there are only three of them in Krabi- mother, father and son.
Dan and my mum arrived on monday morning and we all caught a boat (the only way to get there) to Tonsai
Pre-make-up routine
A rare glimpse of Miss Browne before she puts her slap on. Bay in Rai Leh. It was absolutely beautiful. Surrounded by huge limestone cliffs and karsts, warm, bright blue water, white sand and palm trees. Tonsai is a small resort and has a really lovely almosphere. Our accommodation was pure luxury! We spent the afternoon at the beach swimming in the sea and collecting shells. Later we walked to Rai Leh West and then accross to Rai Leh East-it's a small place so it didn't take long. The water was so shallow that we walked accross to another uninhabited island. We saw lots monkeys and bought some bananas to feed them with. We had a lovely meal on the beach front in Tonsai and then went to some bars. They are all so chilled out-candle lit with hammoks and cushions to lay on. There are also fire shows outside the bars. It is such a lovely place!
The next morning the weather wasn't as good. We fed the monkeys outside our room and had breakfast before going to Ray Lei East to try to find the lagoon. We knew that it was going to be a steep path but we didn't realise how steep! We all got absolutely filthy from
The best way to travel
It was either a lovely, relaxing afternoon, or bloody hard work - depending on who you ask. Balancing the paddle across your knees while you admire the glorious scenery and look for monkeys can really take it out of you. the clay covering the limestone. We had to pull ourselves up the cliff with rope. When we got to the top we then had to go down a steep path which was harder than climbing up. As it was raining it was very slippery. We could all see the lagoon but the last bit of the path was REALLY dangerous. It was so steep and slippery. Olly and a man that we'd met on the way up were the only ones who went all the way. Olly said it was the most dangerous thing he's ever done(thank god he didn't slip or you wouldn't have any photos - thats his job)! But he said that the lagoon was amazing-shallow blue water enclosed by limestone cliffs and just so peaceful. Very few people would have been there. When we got back down everyone we saw stared at us and asked us why we were so filthy!
The next day was rainy so we got a boat to Ao Nang and a taxi to Ao Thalane where we went kayaking. The sun came out and it was great! We paddled to a tiny beach where there were lots of monkeys, we
Life's a beach
Chilling out in Phi Phi. saw sea eagles and kingfishers, sea gypsie houses, and mangroves. We paddled through a huge canyon. The scenery was amazing. We were paddling for four hours as we got a bit lost at the beginning. It was so peaceful. Back at Tonsai we had a few drinks in the evening and Olly fell asleep upside down on top of the covers so not suprisingly he had a few mosquito bites the next morning!
After breakfast we packed our things and waited for a long tail boat to take us to Rai Leh East where we were catching a ferry to Koh Phi Phi. A huge rainstorm started just before we left so we had to walk out to sea with all of our luggage to get onto the boat and then got absolutely drenched on the way. When we got to Koh Phi Phi two hours later the sun was shining and the skies were blue! Our stilted bungalow in Phi Phi was so lovely. It had the best view ever, looking straight out to sea. We sunbathed and snorkelled for the rest of the day. The water was so clear and we saw lots of tropical fish, clams,
Messy!
If they made fourth Indiana Jones movie, where we had just been would make an ideal set. coral and even a sea snake. We had a lovely meal and went to the market.
We had a HUGE buffet breakfast the next morning and lazed on the beach. Lovely weather. In the afternoon we got a boat back to Krabi town where we again had a really nice hotel with a lovely view of the river. We took Dan and my mum to the food market for a fruit shake. They weren't impressed when a mouse ran accross our feet! We made them eat on the market where we usually eat for 30b each-but they ordered two dishes each for us all so it wasn't as cheap as usual.
The next morning my mum and Dan headed to the airport 😞 and we got a bus to Ranong where we have to cross the boarder to Burma to renew our visa. We had a lovely week of luxury and checking into our two pound-a-night mouldy room tonight was horrible!!
