Monkeys!!
Help! they're coming to get me! We arrived in Krabi one day last week, and ending up staying one night in the wonderful krabi town, which is a must for all people thinking of coming to Thailand.....not! The bars and clubs on the street have strict no gun policys with large signs at the doors informing all potential clientele of this. It was just like Belfast! the hotel was great and we had aircon, fantastic, but we still left promptly the next morning and headed for Ao Nang beach, which was a bit more of what we have become accustom to. This small town is formed around its beach location with most businesses and hotels looking out over the sea to the sight of beautiful Hongs and rock formations erecting out of the ocean. This town therefore had taken quite a large hit from the recent tsunami. It is quite apparent to see some of the new builds following the disaster and in some ares there is still evidence of destroyed buildings, but as a whole this town seems to have rebuilt and is once again touting for the business which it has lost to its eastern coast neighbours. It is quite bizarre to sit in the
sea front resturants and look out over the sea imagining what it must have been like to sit in those seats 18 months ago.
The resort we stayed in was great and once again we were spoiled by the pleasure of aircon and a swimming pool. the bedroom was strange but clean a four poster bed draped with shells, I woke up feeling like the little mermaid! We had booked a three day tour before we left and this took in two days Kyacking and one boat tour around some of the surrounding islands. The first day was had a kyacking trip though large canyons formed from the limestone rocks and through mangrove forests. It was quite shocking just how much work is required to travel for any length of time on a kyack, but it was very rewarding as it seemed to be the only way to get aroound and see such vast canyons and surrounding lagoons. We were also quite fortunate with our tour where we were only in a group of three plus one guide and this made it qutie a personal tour. The first day we also treated to the appearance of monkeys which having recognised
Beautiful Beaches
Remind us why we left? our guide, and realising that he had food, chased after us and ended up jumping on his and then our kyacks! this was an intimadating experiance as we didnt know what they were going to do. We then had to row to the trees on the other side of the swamp with the monkey on board to allow it to get back to the trees!! Personally I was quite prepared to hit it off with the paddle but I don't think our tour guide would have approved!! I don't mind admitting I was very scared. Unfortunately our 'team effort' in stearing meant that we next ended up going almost eye to eye with a vey huge lizard!!! My natural affinity with the animals refused to shine through!! Once the hysteria had abaited we did feel very fortunate to have seen such amazing sights so close up. The trip was a killer on the arms and we now both have muscles like popeye. The following day was a little more restfull with a trip round 4 of the neighbouring islands. We got to see loads of lovely beaches and snorkle in clear water, though there was some scary looking jellyfish we

scared and dangerous didn't fancy getting too close to. It being rainy season here our lunch as interupted by a huge downpour...so we did the only sensible thing and headed back into the sea. It was great to be in the warm water with torrential rain pouring down on our heads..our guide even brought us fresh mango out into the water!! Yesterday was our last day in the canoes and was all aimed at cave exploration. We got to explore lots of diffrent caves...some pitch black and some really narrow. Kyle and I managed to see all aspects of the narrow caves as we continully rowed into the sides and back!! Was quite spooky in some of them and we had been warned there were bats the size of dogs...luckily no alsations with wings appeared! some of the caves came out in fantastic hidden lagoons and it was crazy to think we were the only people around. Our guide was very amusing and made us row first as he made spooky noises from the back of the cave and accasionally shouted 'dragon' just to spook us! The rain once again hit out of the caves and we got to canoe in an extremely heavy down pour!! definately kept us cool if somewhat sodden!! We really enjoyed the tour and are spending our last day having a massage to try and recoup the use of our arms!
Tomorrow we head out of Thailand and will be sad to leave we have had such a great time with lots of happy memories from the great kingdom! Malaysia is next and we are heading to Kuala Lumpur on a night train, another new experience which I am praying will be a step up from the night ferry!! Lots of love to all of you Nic and Kyle x x x
