right after the homestay there was an epidemic at base. every single person there, and for at least a day, needed to be within bolting distance of a washroom. looking back, it was bloody funny, but at the time everybody thought they were slowly dying... not a good time, but many funny quotes came out of it 😊
The next weekend was the trip to the Tiger Temple. something like 1237 steps to the top of this mountain to see the most amazing view. the steps were nowhere near regular steps and sometimes you may as well have actually been mountain climbing. half-way up you truly do contemplate quitting, but then you pass another group who is going slower and breathing heavier than you are and it gives you a quick burst of energy to carry on with. and it really was worth it. i have so many pictures and some panoramic video of that view. and then walking down your legs begin to wobble and shake uncontrollably. good times.
there was a birthday party that night, 80's dance theme after a talent show/competition. me and five of the girls tied ourselves together with sheets and were the talentless worm. it was good, everybody loved us! and then we danced til three in the morning. there were dance-offs, and mine with Warner had my glasses fly off and hit concrete... now they sit crookedly and hit my cheek when I smile 😞
the next morning it was up at seven-thirty to clean after the party because we were going snorkling! yay! and everybody (with the exception of myself) was insanely hung over 😊 the boat ride to the islands we were hitting up was crazy and everyone left with bruises. at one point I'm pretty sure the aim was to see how high they could get us out of our seats. I lost my shorts on a bump, it was that violent! but the water was amazing and the fish were beautiful and the beaches were absolutely unreal. it was a great day. and we had the most wonderful ice cream sundays ever. yum.
the next friday we were doing games at the R35 school before hitting up Kao Lak/Burma for the visa run. The kids at the school were either totally orphaned by the tsunami or lost at least one parent/guardian. they were so freaking affectionate, it was the hardest thing ever to get back onto our van and leave them. a crazy amount of pictures were taken and I've never been hugged so much in my life, I'm very glad we'll be going back again this month 😊
the burma visa run deserves it's own entry and i'm running out of time, so I'll do it up at a later date.
Cheers!
