Railay Beach
Breathtaking scenery, this place was great because it sheltered us from the rain. On Koh Samui we asked various travel agents all kinds of questions on how to get to the town of Krabi. Little do they know they've giving us valueable information for us to do it by ourselves with the locals, for about half the price or less. "Where does your bus take us on the ferry? When should we leave" etc etc Usually works. Being on a budget we've learned all kinds of little tricks to save a buck or two.
The 2.5 hour ferry ride from Koh Samui to the mainland was actually quite nice, and not as ghetto as I'd usually expect in this part of the world. I felt like I was in a large restaraunt. I was pretty tired from the night before, so the $4.00 per hour massages woud have been nice, but for some reason I didn't take them up on the offer. After we took another 4 hour overcrowded bus ride to Krabi Town. We've also learned that we need to budge in front of the line when travelling. Whether it be locals or tourists. It can even be kind of rude, but if we don't we could be stuck sitting on the

That tried to steal my camera! floor, which isn't pleasant. We learned this pretty early in our trip, especially after the bus ride from hell in Mae Hong Son!
Krabi Town is the gateway to, among others the resort towns Ao Nang and Railay Beach. From Ao Nang it's about 30 minutes away, and from Railay it's about a 1 hour ghetto motorboat ride. The town itself isn't too nice or exciting. But it's the prices and the people that kept us here for 3 days. The resort towns are really expensive, they're mostly for package tourists coming on their 2 week holidays. There's some budget options but they're still triple the price of Krabi town and they are in horrible condition. I think this has been the friendliest place in all of Thailand. Everywhere we went the locals would have conversations with us, giving us advice on how to get to places we want to go, and best of all weren't trying to sell us anything. Reminded me of Cambodia, when I asked directions to the bank nd the hotel clerk said it was 2km away and offered to take me there on a motorbike. Now that's friendly!
The only exciting thing in
Ao Nang Beach
A pretty little resort town Krabi was the nightmarket. So much good and cheap food. We could pick anything we wanted and eat as much we want for the 1/4 of the price of a meal we usually have. It's just silly sometimes! Southern Thailand is home to a large muslim population. It's pretty cool to see a different cutlure out here. A place where there are as many mosques as there are Wats. Ladies cover their heads and smile shyly. They've all been really nice people
Our first stop was the resort community of Ao Nang. Overpopualted with package tourists. the beach itself was OK, kind of rocky. It's the surroundings that made it beautiful. The province of Krabi is dotted in limestone cliffs similar to those in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. We got a bit sunburned on the beach, drank some overpriced tourist fruit shakes and did a bit of hiking. Wouldn't of been too exciting except for the fact that there were so many monkeys on the bridge. Monkeys can always take up hours on fun jut watching them. Until one bad one tried to steal my video camera. It was good footage though cause it was running!
What I
Local Woman
Not sure who she was, but she sure was cool! love about these resort towns is we can just walk into any luxury resort, no matter how much it costs and use their facitilities such as their pool. It's nice to hang out a while, while the staff gives us nothing but smiles. They wouldn't dare ask a tourist if we were really staying there, it may insult us! Instead be just get a bow and offers for lunch. I usually refuse anything that would cost money.......just in case.
Railay Beach is a breathtaking place. We liked it much better than Ao Nang. It's a place that only can be reached by boat and has no cars. The limestone cliffs created natural caves that sheltered the beach. Normally that my be a complaint but unfortunatly it was raining hard on this day. It was warm enough, and it emptied the beach of burned elderly europeans back to their resorts. But we found ourselves leaving after a few hours deciding to skip the hike to the lagoon.
After India....in which we leave for tomorrow.....yikes! I think we're going to Malaysia and then making a stop back here in South Thailand. I'm hoping to visit Railay again in the sun.
Fancy Resort
We can go swimming, use their clean bathrooms etc etc. It's nice to pretend we're rich on vacation hahaha It's pretty much the nicest beach I've seen yet!
We fly to Bangkok in a couple hours. We booked a flight from here to there for only 155 bhat! That's about $4.00! I hope it's going to be OK haha It's just a silly price for a flight, isn't it?
