The Beach
The Beach Took a ferry, then longtail boat out to the Island of phi Phi. Apparently this is supposed to be spoilt paradise, but actually I couldn't agree, yes there are quite a few tourists , but most of them are day trippers who come on small cruise ships and only dock for 2 or 3 hours. Once they are gone it is fairly quiet. The Thais blame the tourism on movies like 'The Beach' filmed on nearby Phi Phi Lei. The water is crystal clear in places, and the white sand and Islands that surround the Island are mind boggling. Parts of the Island were devasted in the Tsunami and you can see some tops of palm trees missing which is left as a reminder of the people whio died in December 2004.
once again we caught a long boat in search of the Pardise Islands including 'The Beach', we snorkelled with our new found friends of various nationalities Israli's, Swedish, Australian, Thai, Italian, American. Saw many brightly coloured tropical fish and coral . Thailand really is stunning. Yes there is a big tourism scene but you can still find quite a few deserted Islands due to the fact that they
Coves
Here are typical coves ideal for snorkeling are under a national park status. So much fun was had on Phi phi, Great fire shows including one that went wrong and the performer threw by complete mistake a fire pole which flew into the audience, almost a vey nasty accident occured. Of all the people we met here in Phi phi we certainly won't be forgetting Claudio the 62 year old Italian/ex drug smuggler friend of the English cook Jamie Oliver. Quite a character!
