Edit Blog Post
Paul has left me (Claire) to attempt to write this blog all by myself so apologies if its not very good. So last time we wrote we were on Ko Tao which we totally fell in love with. We spent another few days just chilling out and met a lovely couple who we had a couple of good nights out with. The weather was a bit rubbish for our last few days so we didn’t manage snorkelling again but was still a lovely place to chill out for a bit. Next we headed to Ko Samui which is the last of the 3 islands on this side of Thailand to visit. I so wish we had missed it out because it was just rubbish. Has no character like the other islands and was so westernised it had Starbucks and Tescos everywhere. We only stayed 2 days but it rained constantly which may have affected our opinion of the place. The funniest thing happened whilst we were though, when we were heading out for breakfast one morning these 2 English reps on a motorbike stopped us and gave us some scratch cards to see if we could win a prize. Paul only
won a t-shirt on his but I had won the star prize! We both got very excited as the star prize could be a brand new Sony laptop or $1000! Unfortunately there were 3 conditions to us winning this prize, these were: 1) you must be over 30 yrs old 2) you must be in full time employment 3) you had to first go listen to a 90 minute presentation. These 2 reps decided that Paul could pass for 30 (apparently its his massive beard which is making him look like an old man) and persuaded us to go and try and tell a few lies so that we could win our prize. So we headed to some very posh offices which were for a company who were basically a time share type thing but for very posh holiday resorts. We then got quizzed by several people about our jobs (Paul pretended to be an accountant although how they believed he could be an accountant with his massive beard I do not understand) and had to make up lots random stuff which they actually believed. We then ended up sitting through a 3 hour sales pitch where we got taken
to a ridiculously posh hotel and given free food and drink and then dragged back to their offices to listen to a very confusing explanation about why we should join a 39 year contract with these people. But because we were lying so much about ourselves I think we came across very interested in actually buying into the timeshare (which we defiantly weren’t!) and it ended up with a pretty pressurised situation with the manager which was very difficult to say no to. So after spending 3 hours I was very eager to get my star prize to make it all worth it! Stupidly we did not realise that one of the “star prizes” was a dream holiday which actually only turned out to be 7 nights free accommodation in one of the their 5 star resorts in Thailand and the catch is that you have to be over 30 to claim the prize. So basically was a big waste of time but if anyone if over 30 and plans to go to Thailand in the next year you can have our prize!
So after being disappointed in Ko Samui we headed over to west coast of Thailand. We
stopped over in Krabi for a couple of days to break up the journey but not much to see. The only interesting thing in Krabi was the fact that our bathroom was outside and it was raining the whole time we were there so made things pretty interesting! Next we headed to Ko Phi Phi which is literally paradise, was defiantly my favourite of all the islands we visited. The weather was beautiful the whole time we were there and had the most gorgeous beach. There are no roads in Ko Phi Phi and was lovely to be somewhere anyway from the constant noise of scooters and horns. On one of our days there we went on a boat tour round Ko Phi Phi where we did lots snorkelling which was incredible and visited Monkey Bay which isn’t quite Monkey Island but it this actually had monkeys on it! We then headed to Ko Phi Phi Leh which is where they filmed “The Beach” which was beautiful. Ko Phi Phi was a pretty big party island so we had one night out whilst we were there, we went to a crazy bar where they had an actual boxing ring! If
you volunteered to fight then you got a free bucket so there were lots of drunk tourists having fights which was pretty entertaining but got a bit serious at times.
Next we headed to Phuket where we had decided to prebook our accommodation and managed to get an awesome last minute deal on a gorgeous hotel. We have been staying in some pretty horrible places recently so this is heaven. Its so posh we have a balcony and a day bed! There is also a bar in the pool! We keep saying we are having a holiday from our holiday because even though you wouldn’t think it travelling gets really exhausting. Our first night here we met up with a couple we had met in Vietnam and had a lovely night drinking lots red wine and chatting. Phuket is okay but its basically a holiday destination so not much to explore. Today is our last day in Thailand and tomorrow we fly very early to Kuala Lumpur! We are both very excited to get back to proper travelling and visit a city, I think we may have overdone it a bit on the beaches which I didn’t think was
ever possible. Missing you all lots, cant believe its only been 2 months! xxx
