We arrived in Bangkok late at night...our 20 hour flight with a layover in Narita, Japan was rough to say the least, but we made it. We stayed that night and another night in this place we had booked from the states in the downtown business section of Bangkok. Our first order of business was to make it to one of the famous southern islands of Thailand and relax on the beach.
Our first stop in the south was Kho Phi Phi, a beautiful small island that was pretty much wiped out in the tsunami. We stayed on a beach off of the main town area and spent a lot of time eating curry, fried rice, and banana pancakes, and playing with our kitty friends on the beach.
We also took an evening boat trip out to some nearby islands, most notably Phi Phi Lei, which was where they filmed the movie "The Beach." Did some snorkeling too, but it wasn't great, but the water was so warm and pleasant it didn't matter. Along the island you could also see ropes leading to areas where swallows nest. The ropes and platforms are used to collect the nests for birds nest
soup.

Oh guys...
Hi Michael and Brooke: What a wonderful way of sharing your adventures with us! I want to see pictures of the places you've stayed in too. Just started this so I hope to find food pictures as well. Did you bring your USB cord to plug in...or are you just downloading from your memory card? Good photos thus far. I will write more later. Mom
