Hello Everyone
Well it seems like ages since the last blog, only a little over a week really but we seem to have done so much and Australia seems so long ago!
We arrived in Bangkok after a quick stop in Hong Kong last saturday, got a bus from the airport straight to Khao San Road. We literally took the first room we looked at just off Khao San, it was ok and it had Air Con which was so needed as it was 32 deg but the humidity made it feel about 42, and after leaving Perth at 18 deg it was a big shock!! For some strange reason considering we had only went back an hour we seemed to be rather jet lagged and really just slept the first night in Bangkok, how boring, but we made up for it the next night!
So we got up the next morning and decided to get a Tuk Tuk to The Grand Palace, easy peasy we thought. Well we hadnt counted on the mean Tuk Tuk drivers that lie and tell you places are shut so they can take you to their mates tailor shop! So we ended
up at the MBK and The Siam Discovery Centre shopping malls instead of the Grand Palace but that was ok at least they were air conditioned! Which was just aswell because we were kitted out in jeans, as it is the only trousers we have and apparantly you need to have these on and covered feet for going to the palace, but as we found out you really didnt and flip flops would of been fine!!!
So by now we had these drivers sussed and got the next one to take us to Grand Palace with a quick stop at Wat Pho on the way. Wat Pho has the 46m long gold reclining Buddha which was pretty cool although Martyn was most upset he was'nt sitting up with a big fat Buddha belly! Next stop finally was the Palace and Wat Phra Kaew. The palace itself was pretty cool really just a nice pretty big building, Wat Phra Kaew was a bit more exciting lots to see and lots of pictures to take. Although there are no pics of the reclining Buddha as they are on my camera and its still not uploading properly.
So anyway that night
Wat Phra Kaew
These dudes guard the Buddha we heading for the night time drinking stalls on Khao San. Much fun was had and many buckets were consumed. It was great fun, I had forgotten how nice the buckets were!! We were suffering a bit the next day though and we had to be out of our room at 12 and our bus to Phuket wasnt until 6pm. So we spent a lot of time reading and trying to stay cool!! So our bus was due to leave at 6pm haha if anyone has ever been promised this in Thailand you will know what we mean, add another 2 hours on! So we left at 8pm and were awoken at 6am and dumped at a roadside restaurant in Surat Thani and promised we would be on our way to Phuket shortly. So sure enough 1/2 an hour later a little truck thing came along and I was directed to the front AC seat! While Martyn was told to stand at the back and hang out the back door and to cling on very tight! It was so funny poor Martyn was terrified and thought we were going the next 5 hours to Phuket like that!! Its ok thought
we were then put into a mini bus the rest of the way!
When we arrived in Phuket we decided to go straight to the pier and see if we could gert a ferryout that day to Phi Phi. We were sick and tired of travelling but the thought of getting somewhere that night and not moving for a few days was so tempting! So that was fine and we arrived in Ko Phi Phi at 4pm that day.
I was last in Ko Phi Phi with Ashley 3 years ago only 6 months after the Tsunami and you would not recongnise the place now. It is back to what I imagine it looked like before hand with SO many hotels restaurants etc, when we were last here there was hardly anything. So we found a LOVELY little bungalow to stay in for 10 pound a night which was splashing out but it had a fridge and cable TV! Also a lovely pool it was so good, I could see us never leaving! Which was true of Martyn as I could hardly get him out the room as they had so many sports channels poor boy was in
Bangkok
Tuk Tuk man heaven!
So we spent the next 2 days doing nothing but lie by the pool, wander around and eat and drink far too much it was bliss. Ther are so many people here on a 2 week holiday that we felt in the holiday mood too it was great! On day number 3 we went out on a boat trip on a long tail boat round various islands and to see Maya Bay where the beach was filmed. We done heaps of snorkling Martyn was loving it! It was a great day out and so so cheap compared to the trips we done in OZ, we are no longer pining to South America as it is just as cheap here!! Yesterday we chilled out again, weather is great although a it is the rainy season it usually buckets down with rain in the morning but clears by lunch to be gorgeous.
Its been the best 5 days here on Ko Phi and Phi and the best start to Thailand. We are heading to Railay this afternoon for hopefuylly some more relaxing till we head up to the Islands in preperation for the Full Moon Party!
Anyway
Lots of Love to everyone xxxx
