Goodbye Malcolm
giving the obligatory wave With Malcolm cutting a very sad figure on the boat giving the obligatory goodbye wave as his ship sailed into the sunset (well it wasnt sunset as it was 9am but I add that in for effect) I was left comforting a very upset Kate. To be fair to her she wasnt upset for long because I think she understood that she had been very fortunate to have seen her Dad and we'd had a thoroughly enjoyable time.
So we waved one last goodbye to Phi Phi as we headed to Ko Chang and onwards to our second full moon party. I think that I enjoyed Phi Phi as much as the first time around and probably even more as we got to appreciate the islands beauty without taking it for granted. Its a gorgeous Island, if not a bit over populated with tourists at times, but the pictures sell it to us every time. So it was bye bye to Phi Phi for the last time and hello Ko Pha Nang for the second time.
After a sweaty coach journey to Surant Thani we made our ferry to the party island. Whilst on the boat we got chatting
A sad day
an upset Kate, not sure I should of been taking a photo when she's just about to cry to a pair of Canadian girls called Allie and Chelsea who would be our new bessies for the next week or so. Prior to arriving at KPN we had thought ahead and booked our bungalow. Unfortunately it wasnt back at the Blue Lotus but it was next door. From our previous experience on KPN we had anticipated the scrum-like posse of tuk-tuk drivers and planned to hire a moped instead to drive up to Ban Kai. Unfortunately there was no room at Greenpeace for Chelsea and Allie so they were in the unenviable position of trying to sort out somewhere cheap to stay from the ferry port. Like sharks, the touts could smell this but I had to leave them to it as we had to transport ourselves and our bags in two journies to Greenpeace.
There was a brief period of miscommunication, and therefore stress, when we got off the ferry between Kate and our new bungalow owner as when we called to say we had arrived he told us there was no rooms left. The brief panic was over once I had taken the rucksacks up, turns out he thought it was another Kate trying to book
in and take our rooms. So with Kate and I finally settled in we got an early night in preparation for the following days madness.
After a morning relaxing around the bungalows and the afternoon on the beach we got ready for our second full moon party. We had been in contact with John the Brummie from Railey and had made plans to meet at his hostel which was right on Had Rin beach. As we arrived on the beach the heavens opened and put a dampner on the start of the night. We then couldnt find John at his hostel which added to our frustration. Not to be discouraged we added to our previously consumed Vodka buckets and proceeded to join in the slightly damp FMP. As luck would have it we eventually bumped into John and we partied like it was 1999. Well I tried until I consumed one too many Samsung Whiskey buckets and I was well and truely fecked! A lesson to everyone drinking bottles of whiskey, its not big and clever and you will pay the consequences. My consequences were that I ruined a night we were really looking forward to and had to
be taken home by Kate. I have no recollection of the evening, my memory is blank, I just remember waking up starkers on the spare bed in our room. Kate has pictures to back up the fact I was a complete mess. I was sincerely apologetic and vowed that me and the top shelf drinks were finished. The only drink I could rely on was my trusty friend Chang.
The following day we hired another moped, as it would of been cheaper than a taxi, to go back down to Had Rin to pick up the other moped and John. On arrival to Johns room we found him nursing a burnt leg, from a drunken fire swing incident, and sleep deprived from a mushroom mountain incident. Crazy mofo!!! But with hangover food on our minds we mounted our petrol fueled chariots and took John to the Mason's Arms for lunch. With our calories consumed we had a hair of the dog before heading back to Had Rin. We arranged to meet later on to watch the Arsenal Man Utd match after an afternoon siesta.
Kate didnt make it out but as it was Johns last night we made
the most of watching a spot of footie and enjoying a few bon voyage cold ones, only a few though as I had to drive the moped home again :-) With John heading back to Bangkok then onwards to Brum we said our goodbyes and wished him all the best. John lives in Solihull and drinks in Kings Heath and Moseley so im sure we'll be seeing him again.
The following day we had arranged to meet Allie and Chelsea and go on a road trip back to Had Yao. This amazing beach was something we discovered on our first trip to KPN and was the place we had originally bumped into Fredrik. It was that beautiful we wanted to take the girls there. We had a really nice afternoon on the beach and then at a hotel pool built into the hill. It had an infinity pool which was so relaxing and had the most amazing views. Hopefully I can add a pciture to show you how nice it was.
After a nice and relaxing afternoon we decided our ying needed some yang and headed to Coral bungalows for the infamous pool party. You may remember the
Coral from our first visit, this place has pool parties nearly everynight and is the place to go leading up to and winding down from a FMP. Our night wasnt quite a wind down as we all decided to get a wee bit drunk and spend the evening partying away in the pool. It was a really good night apart from when I went to collect the moped the next day we found that our camera had smashed beyond repair. We must of dropped it and the screen had smashed. DOH!!! At least our pictures were saved by the memory card still working.
So our last day in KPN was spent recovering thanks to a few nights on the tiles and it was time to say goodbye to KPN for the last time. Our boat to Ko Tao was the following morning so an early night was most definitely needed.
