Home Sweet Home
We sure are going to miss this place...not sure there's many places like it left in the world. As I sit down to write this blog, I can't believe how much time has passed since our last entry, but should you ever find yourself in what has been our home for the last 3 weeks, maybe then can you really understand...but let me try and describe to you some typical days here at Mystery Beach...
Imagine if you will, waking up to the sunshine creeping into your modest bungalow, to the cicadas electric singing outside your door and a rooster who might as well be in bed next to you practicing his best and sometimes comical cock-a-doodle doo! After escaping from your mosquito net (with your bestest bestfriend in the world) and into the daylight, every sense is greeted by the sights and sounds of your private little beach; the greens and blues of the ocean that you see clearly from your front porch hammock and the sounds of her crashing or sometimes soothing waves, which you use to determine what today's bay swim will be like - todays forecast, challenging for sure.
You follow the path of giant rocks down to the garden bar/lounge, where your new family has begun to gather, whether
To the beach!
The path to the beach is not for the faint of heart. Rickety wooden boardwalks are like murder on your feet! All worth it of course. from private bungalow or the nearest hammock, to chat and eat before heading into the water, as well as discuss the adventures or rather, misadventures of the previous night. Laughing is certain, hugs are always welcome, and hangovers are not uncommon.
One by one, sometimes many or just a few, you hop into the hot tub-esque ocean water and hope at some point you get a patch of cold water to make this swim a bit more refreshing but instead you wave to the taxi boat (the only way to get to this magical destination) as he whisks new privileged beach guests to the shore. Feeling a bit more energized, the day is now yours to decide - and you are faced with some pretty tough decisions:
1. You make your way down to the beach to swim, play frisbee, volleyball, ride waves, work on your tan...etc
2. Chill out in your living room, pull up your closest hammock (I count at least 6) or cushion, read, play cards (Euchre being our game of choice) or pool, or take a nap, why not!
3. Travel next door or up and over the hill to the next beach to
Workplace
When we're not sleeping, you can usually find us here. At one point or another, the entire beach will be hanging on this span of sand. Great place to spend the day! practice yoga or your meditation or heck, why not just do it in your own living room (revert back to option 2).
4. Be extra adventurous! Hike, kayak, take a boat trip around the island, snorkel, etc. It's all there, you just say go.
Attempt all with one or all of your buddies whom you can't ever seem to tear yourself too far away from, as by now they have all become family. There is something special and wonderful that has to be said about the relationships you create while traveling. It's magical, as if without saying anything you all have this understanding of something almost spiritual that bonds you instantly. When you realize you've got a million other things in common, then what you have found are friends for life...but I digress, back to your "choose your own adventure".
After 10 minutes or 8 hrs. of whatever you fancy today, and there are no time contraints here, just daytime, nighttime, and I'm hungry let's eat time, it has brought us to nightfall where you can choose just about anything, but it usually always involves Changs and buckets of cheap Thai rum, blacklight twister and dancing
Hellooooo!
Friendly bird that lives at one of the guesthouses. He loves children and flys onto their heads to hangout for a bit. Unexpectedly sometimes which makes for some great moments. and the only time you have to leave is when you're tired and where dawn is welcomed and watching the beautiful sunrise over the beach is not uncommon. There are no words to describe the beauty of the beach's sunrise, except maybe "this is amazing", "holy crap" or "Jesus, have I died?".
So there you have it. It saddens me to end this entry because as of right now we have left our Mystery Beach and are on a boat back to the mainland and then we're night training it up to Bangkok for a few days before we head back to the many wonderful and loving arms and voices of our friends and families back home (yay!). But having our last family breakfast, checking out that beautiful morning from bungalow 3 one last time and the long tear-filled hugs as we walked out to our last taxi boat ride, it became epically clear that both K and I are going to miss everything about this place a whole lot more then we really expected. That and also that we will be returning here as soon as humanly possible and that all these goodbyes are really just until
Up and down...
Can't even tell you how many times we climb these stairs to get to our bungalow everyday. we see you next...
So to all of you Gang'sters, cuddle puddlers, friends and new family, thank you so much for making our stay so amazing and memorable....we love you and miss you!
And to all of you beautiful, wonderful, special and very much loved (and ridiculously missed) lovers of ours back home, we can't wait to see you <3
Three more days in Bangkok...I wonder what the Big Mango has in store for us this time...K will let you know next time!
