“Alright mate”, “Innit”, “F**kin' 'Ell”- Welcome to Koh Phangan. The island is world famous for it's Full Moon Party (a beach rave fuelled by psychedelic drugs and cocktails in beach buckets) and disembarking from our boat, this is all you hear from numerous touts, trying to sell you their rooms.

Spotting the English man isn't too hard and I had had enough of the cliches and colloquialisms so told everyone to get lost. We finally took one guy up on his bungalows and went off to have a look. They were tucked away on a private stretch of beach, just 10 bungalows at 150BAHT a night.

The island is isolated and empty after the full moon, and we took advantage of this by taking a motorbike to explore the far reached of the primitive roads. Apart from Haad Rin party town, the island consists of quiet fishing villages.

We bought a lilo and spent the remainder of our stay floating around the lagoon of our private beach and swinging in the hammock over our bungalows front decking.

We stayed for a few days and became friends with the young guys working there, learning card tricks and playing games, learning Thai and joking around late into the night.
