As we didn’t get in until 4am on Thursday and our flight to Koh Samui was at 6am we had just enough time to pack the last few items before catching a taxi to the airport. Justin had just got up as we got in and wasn’t impressed, he was worried we’d miss our flight and worried about us too! We left Dan in Bangkok as he is waiting for his bank cards to arrive at the embassy.
Having had no sleep and still feeling a little drunk I fell asleep on Erica in the taxi on the way to the airport.
Once on the plane I fell asleep again, this time on Justin. Apparently I was in such a deep sleep that I did not wake up for the in flight meal. Which is not like me, I love plane food! In order to eat him self he had to lift my head off his shoulder and place it against the window, I remember nothing!
Koh Samui’s airport is rather small, but no way near as tiny as Luang Prabang airport. There was a taxi desk there where we booked a minibus and catamaran to take
On our way out.
Erica, Myself, Dan, Justin and Rich. Also a couple of randoms. us to Koh Pang Nan. On the boat I fell asleep again, this time on Rich’s shoulder (I don’t like to leave anyone out!) and I have seen photographic proof that he also fell asleep on my head, what a sight!
Once we arrived on Koh Pang Nan we caught a taxi to the North West of the Island near Haad salad to the Ibiza Bungalows, where I stayed with Lee 2 years earlier. We booked the accommodation due to the full moon party which attracts thousands of people every month.
During the day Rich, Erica and I slept on the beach, it was a bit cloudy but Rich still managed to get burnt. Rich forgot to take his glasses off and burnt his eyelids, which we all found rather amusing as he could barely open his eyes. As the days went on the also started to peel!
A quiet night was needed, so after eating Barracuda I a beach front restaurant we headed to the Rasta bar for a chilled one. However there was a band on when we got there which were pants and definitely not reggae. It was also fairly busy so we had
to sit in the bottom area where no one else was, so we played cards by torchlight and after finishing our huge singha beer we headed back for an early night.
On Friday morning we discovered that the full moon party was tonight and managed to book a taxi to take us to the South of the Island, a place called Haad Rin. Dan arrived whilst we were having breakfast but still hadn’t managed to get his cards. Unfortunately on there were no bungalows left so he dumped his bag in our room as none of us will be sleeping tonight. The full moon party starts at about 9pm and does not finish until 11am and we all intended to stay out till all night.
During the day we just chilled, alternating between the beach and the bar area, where we watched a DVD, James Bond: Casino Royale. The weather was cloudy again today so we weren’t bothered about doing anything too exciting or energetic as we were saving ourselves for the evening.
We had something to eat at our place before catching the 2 taxis to Haad Rin, on the way to the beach we
bought a bucket (this is like a bucket a child has to build sand castles with which they fill with alcohol, mine consisting of Vodka, red bull and sprite, beauty). When we got to the beach there was already thousands of people there, the bars had extended further out on the beach to accommodate for the extra people. We saw the Swedish girls we met on Koh Samet, the Bristol boys who we are constantly bumping into (they were the ones Rich was traveling with before us) and made several new friends too. We arranged to meet at a designated point on the hour in case anyone went missing so that the worse case scenario no one was missing longer than an hour, but after a few buckets everyone forgot, including me. We managed to stay together for half of the night, Dan and I had a phone, so when I did loose everyone whilst phoning Michael I was able to find them again. However later in the evening Dan and I managed to loose everyone else, too busy partying on tables to notice. At one point I did loose my balance and fell off, serves me right for being
a show off!
I don’t really remember seeing the sun rise it just suddenly seemed to be light, but there are a few hazy memories of the night. I bumped into Ali and Matt whom Erica and I had met on our last night in Cambodia, it really is a small world!
Before going home we had something to eat and bumped to Zig again, we finally got in at 12pm.
On Saturday morning when I got in I woke Erica up and we went for breakfast. Erica was a little upset as she had been worried about me last night. I can’t say I blame her! We then went back to bed and Dan slept on the beach as he had no home!
At 5pm we got up and started to watch the football. We were going to watch a film but when the second match came on Rich, Justin and some others wanted to watch it. It was Rich’s team, Charlton. Erica had already fallen asleep in the chill out area, So I went for a quick drink with Dan to Apple bar and arranged to come back to watch the film. However on our return everyone was heading to bed, being in the wide awake club we headed back to the bar where we met some entertaining guys from England. They were wasted, apparently they were drinking mushroom tea (the magic variety) and smoking joints, not my thing but they were funny guys. Didn’t end up getting in until 4am when we left them still partying. When I got in I managed to wake Erica up again, but she was pleased to see me.
On Sunday we spent another day doing nothing, we are going to head to Koh Tao tomorrow morning and decided that tonight we should do something interesting. Ion the afternoon we watched the DVD, Silent Hill but it was PANTS! After the first half hour I had seen enough and went back to the bungalow to write in my journal as I had neglected it since Laos. Rich, who hates horror films, went out with Dan on a bike that they had hired.
In the evening we made our way to Thongsala to watch Muay Thai boxing. First we had something to eat in a nearby restaurant. In total there were seven fights, one was a female fight and one had a guy from New Zealand fighting, the rest were just Thai guys. Erica and I really enjoyed it. You have to see Thai boxing when in Thailand don’t you?
Afterwards we all went to apple bar, Erica and Justin headed home first as they were tired, we had several more drinks, Rich is so funny, all he kept saying was “I’m so happy!”.
