Mauy Thai
Our free ride 3rd mar Mooooooooooooooooooooo. This was my alarm and with my hangover i wasn't impressed at Carsons morning wake up call. Once again we slept in and i was pretty hung over. Trying to wake up, focus and quickly pack, was hard enough but i also had Steph yelling out to me from her room across the hall, trying to have a conversation with me about who knows what!!! Crazy hung over lady. We checked out then headed to an Italian restaurant for brekky (just for something different) where steph asked if she could have rice - in an Italian restaurant!!! Carson and i just looked at each other thinking "you damn American". We then got a swangi to Ao Nang where at first we weren't going to stay as it was highly touristy but changed our minds and headed to a place called Bernie's. We just headed down to the beach checking out all the shops on the way. The water was quite beautiful and the view was rather nice. It was a pretty loud spot though from all the longboats coming and going. I had a great swim and did some reading. Gees what a life hey! For dinner we
just had the buffet all you can eat at Bernie's and let me tell you the Americanis definitely got their moneys worth...We then headed to Ao Nang stadium to watch some Muay Thai Boxing (after Carson jumped off the swangi to get us some beer to take in). Our free ride consisted of us all in a large truck type of swangi with a smaller truck in front of us yelling out over a loud speaker "Muay Thai...Muay Thai...Muay Thai...Tonight...Muay Thai" We paid for the expensive leather seats in the front row as Carson really wanted to see all the sweat. We were all pumped up but not as excited as the locals who were all in one section on the opposite side of the ring to us. They were waving around their money and screaming at everyone throughout the whole thing. The aspect that i enjoyed the most was the traditional music and watching the boxers in a trance like state parading around the ring. I did get quite disturbed to see how young some of the boxers were (towards the end there were two 8 year olds fighting!!!). Its so different from watching boxing on TV, especially when
we watched two knockouts where the second boy was laying on the ground for what seemed like forever while his trainers smacked him to bring him out. They ended up having to drag him out of the ring where we didn't even see him come out of it...Let me tell you i am no longer a fan!!! When it finished we headed back to the center of town and came across a red light kind of district where all the working girls drag you into their bar, making the cross in Sydney look like childs play. We got out of their pretty quickly and after being upset about the whole thing i eventually persuaded the guys to go to a beach party where we all got up and danced to Kylie "can't get you outta my head" (which has become our song!) and by now we are all pretty drunk. I think we left as it was closing and walked back into town arguing with each other about a Thai woman we saw who was obviously a call girl and what Thai men think about western women. Anyways after this it gets a little blurry but we had some yummy
pad thai and whilst walking back to Bernie's I then attempted to do a quick pole dance on the street like the thai girls in the red light distinct and ended up straight on my butt!!! Carson then decided that he would try and muay thai me but ended up kicking my bottle of beer out of my hands!!! I was not happy but we all laughed our way back to Bernie's and Carson even stole us some ice cream from the reception area which we pigged out on in our room. We then made him go back for seconds and we locked him out of the room. Good times...
4th mar A pretty non eventful day after a crappy sleep on a hard pillow. After going down to the beach i caught a swangi back to Krabi so i could pic up my camera battery and battery charger (remember i left it in Penang, Georgetown??) that Renu, the lady working at Star Guesthouse where we stayed organised for me to get back. It was so stressful talking on the phone to the staff at 75 travellers lodge, Penang that it took me forever to organise how i was
going to get it back. After thinking i had lost it forever, some tears and stress, Renu came to my rescue and helped me. That's the Thai spirit right there and in thanking her i bought her some red roses. Once back in Ao Nang i was able to use my camera again and we once again go and eat pad thai for dinner and then walked the streets trying to organise our next few days. Carson and i then head to a tattoo shop to check it out and whilst enquiring Carson leans on the glass counter and cracks it!!! We got out of there pretty quick as the owner was not happy...
