Hello friends and family!!!
Nice to talk to you again after a while 😊
I have arrived back in Bangkok on Sunday morning 6 o clock after our week long trip to the North of Thailand.
On Saturday, the 6th of March we left with 9 persons with the night train to Chiang Mai, 2nd biggest city in Thailand. The trip took approx. 13 hours, we had a great time! It is very comfortable, party with friends and when you decide to sleep just get in your bed up the stairs, very nice! It was Anetes 21st birthday that night, we rocked the train! 😊
We spent Sunday walking around Chiang Mai, seeing some temples. Very HOT! The city itself is overrated, there is not really something to see, just another concrete jungle... It was a must-see place in most of the travel guides. In the evening we went for nice dinner and party in a reggae bar with live music.
On Monday, the 8th, we went to jungle for a Jungle Flight adventure. That was amazing!!!!! We were sliding over 22 platforms and jumping down from 10, 20 and 40 meters! Damn! Until the last platform I did
not know I am so scared of height... Anete looked at me and said: What the hell are you doing here girl? You are very brave! After that 40m fall I felt pretty weird... But proud!
In the evening we rented motorbikes (125cc) to drive around the city and nearest villages, almost could not find the way back to guest house! Imagine us, 6 foreigners, driving around on the left side of the street (difficult in the beginning, to do everything the other way as back home in EU!), with helmets (Thai, of course, don't use them).
In the evening we had d VIP seats at Muai Thai fight club. Was an interesting experience!
Tuesday morning we left to Pai, now just with 4 persons, me, Anete, Monika and Koen. The public bus was only leaving in an hour so we got a taxi. They only have like pick-ups with open back, covered roof and a row of seats on each side. Cool, we put an ipod with speakers on, got cold drinks from the supermarket and our 3h journey could start with wind in our hair 😊 Went to a Mexican restaurant after arrival (yeah, yeah, I am
still in Thailand) and found a nice hotel, penthouse room with 2 double beds and nice balcony, perfect for us 4! After dinner we chilled at a bar with fireplace on the river, very chill! When going back to the center, made some crazy advertisement photos and videos in both supermarkets they have... We were sent out, hahaha! We 4 make a crazy team :D
On Wednesday we went around Pai with Scooters (rented them last evening), very beautiful! Much less traffic, beautiful landscape and not so hot with the wind blowing while you are driving the scooter fast! This was just an amazing day, visited 2 waterfalls (they were not so impressive though, its the dry hot season now) and some villages to see the real Thai life. In the afternoon we drove to an elephant farm and went for a 1,5 hour trip with elephants in the river! Did swimming and had a lot of fun! What do you think is an elephant rodeo? I sit on his neck, holding to his ears, and he is shaking his head and body to drop me off! I fell in the water many times, once totally on my face!
But everything was ok with all of us. Was a great experience! Just 4 of us, not a big tourist group, surrounded with beautiful nature... Noone could take smile off their faces! We decided to stay in Pai another night and rented the same hotel room again.
Thursday morning we traveled back to Chiang Mai with the bus, what an experience... People from tribes with traditional Thai clothing, rice bags on the roof (our bags as well). In the afternoon Anete and Koen went bungee jumping and me and Monika went for an exclusive spa experience. Everyone's happy 😊 We also met Paul who was staying in Chiang Mai while we went to Pai.
Friday at lunchtime we (also Paul, so 5) traveled 6 hours with bus to Sukhothai, the first capital of Thailand and Buddhism center of Thailand. Pretty stuffed experience, they sell more tickets than there are seats... Went for dinner to the market, tried many things, starting from grilled shrimps and whole grilled chicken (they cut it into pieces, you get the head and feet as well 😉 ) to deep fried grasshoppers(sienazis). I was thinking about trying those disgusting things already for a while,
but only now finally tried it! Still have to make myself try the cockroaches and worms... We went for some drinks and looked for a party, but, as we understood, everything we could find was closed at 2! Everyone we asked mentioned some karaoke bar and there were guys who were willing to bring us there with them. So 2 really nice sports cars picked us up, were were brought there, went into private room, drinks and food on the table. Well, ok, thanks! 😊 There was not such a big choice of english songs, but we still had fun! Later on we noticed that from 5 Thai guys there are only 2 left. And when the paying time came, they said they have no money... So yeah, our first experience here being tricked as foreigners... But the bill was not that big, so no problem, but still... They brought us home with the car, though!
Saturday slept a bit longer, had nice breakfast and rented scooters again. We really loved driving them, so fast and independent way to get somewhere and see around!!! And usually 5-6 Euros per day per scooter. And with 2 liters of fuel (less
than 2 Eur) you can drive around the whole day! Went to the old Sukhothai, saw very nice temples, great to do it on a scooter, takes much less time! Drove around a bit again and in the evening went for dinner to the Poo restaurant :D The name was so attractive we could not not go there! And food was amazing, the staff was extra friendly, so - a perfect Poo experience! :D
Since Paul and Monika wanted to have the Sunday at home to chill, we took the bus at 23.20 to Bangkok. Was a Double Decker with most people sitting upstairs. Only 2 people downstairs with us. Of course, we put some music on, was great! So much space, like our own party bus! Others went to sleep at one point, me and Koen were just chilling when we realized that we have to get out already! The trip was 6 hours, but went very fast! The bus driver was pretty pissed though, we asked to stop for toilet several times :D
Because of the protests against government in Bangkok, we got out earlier and took a taxi to our home, it is said to be dangerous
to go in the center of Bangkok now, 100 000 people protesting, airport and roads blocked, crazy stuff! We saw many of them going with cars in the direction of Bangkok from Chiang Mai and Sukhothai... With red flags and shirts. You might have seen it on the news in Europe.
Now another school week has started, only it is very quite at school, because the summer holiday has started for the Thai students!
Have a great week guys, will keep you updated!
Kisses,
Ilze
