Arrived Chiangmai! Travelled on an overnight sleeper train from Bangkok. Supposed to take 12 hours but actually took 16! But the train was comfortable and met some interesting people along the way.

On arrival, took a tuk tuk, and after having some difficulty in getting ourselves understand, got taken to Thapae Gate where all the guidebooks said it was easy to find a clean comfortable guesthouse. They are not wrong! We only had to walk around for a short while before discovering a small soi behind the Montri Hotel that has guesthouse after guesthouse! We've booked into a place called "Nice Apartments" for a couple of nights, whilst we check what else is on offer.

Tomorrow we have booked an exotic sounding trip called the Flight of the Gibbon - they promise an exciting experience "ziplining" through the rainforest. I am a bit dubious about whether it is safe to be playing Jane and Tarzan at my age but Julia is really looking forward to it.

Haven't worked out yet how to upload photos but will try and master the art in the next couple of days.
