Helloo all 😊
Hope you are all doing ok back home! Has been another interesting couple of weeks here in Chiang Mai…
I went climbing with Jen about 2 weeks ago to ‘Crazy Horse Buttress’ which is a big rock climbing area around Tham Meuang (about 20km east of Chiang Mai). The climbing was great and it was just Jen and me all day with 2 guides. I did about 7 different climbs and was shattered by the end of the day but it was AMAZING!!! Definitely need to do some more climbing when I get home and maybe even some down in south Thailand when I visit there.
Aline and I finished our Thai massage course and we got our certificates in Thai Massage which is cool. So I guess I need to get practicing when I get home!
We also went to Pai for the weekend the weekend before last and it ended up being just Aline and me. We had a really nice chilled out weekend there which is just what we both needed I think! We took a minibus there which took around 3 and a half hours along some VERY winding roads
but when we eventually got there we found a little guesthouse which was quite nice. It was another mattress on the floor though (but a lot more comfortable than my mattress in Chiang Mai!!) so am looking forward to a bed for the first time in 6 weeks soon!! On the Saturday we rented some scooters again for the day and visited the hot springs and a little waterfall. We also found a hot spring spa which was a treat!! The Saturday night was quite quiet as we discovered that we picked a great weekend to go to Pai due to the local elections taking place. Restaurants and bars were either shut or not serving alcohol!!
On the Sunday we walked around Pai which is generally quite a lively little town. It is very touristy but at the same time it hasn’t been completely spoilt by it. We also took the scooters and saw a little hill tribe village just outside of the town. We took the bus back to Chiang Mai on the Sunday evening.
I wasn’t feeling too well over the weekend to Pai and it seemed to get a bit worse on the Monday morning.
I went to school in the morning where we taught our classes and after coming home was very sick for the rest of the day. It seemed to get quite a bit worse through the day, so in the evening Jen and Aline decided that I should go to the hospital. So we went off to Chiang Mai Ram hospital where I was seen very quickly. They put me on a drip and started me on some more antibiotics pretty much straight away and were all really friendly. I stayed overnight in the hospital. For breakfast the next day I was served rice soup with chicken (very normal thai breakfast!!) but still wasn’t really eating anything. I stayed in most of the day and was served rice soup again for lunch and again for dinner….by which time I was ready to go home!! So after discussion with the doctor, agreed that I could go home with a selection of pills etc to take and that I would rest.
When I got home the next day, I found Aline was ill too and sleeping - so we were both sick together in our room - nice to have some company!!
After most of the week in bed - I was feeling quite a bit better but am still having some problems with my stomach. A lot better than before though!
On Sunday I went to the zoo with Rachel where we spent the day getting lost in the biggest zoo I have ever seen! We even thought at the end that we were locked in, as we hadnt seen anyone else in quite a long time! It was a fun day out though and was lovely to see all the animals.
Monday I was finally back at school!! Yay! Really good to see the kids again. This week as our last week at school and we had to write english exams for the kids who all did really well. We said goodbye to them all yesterday which was quite emotional! Lots of tears from the teachers, the kids and from me and Jen! All a bit of a mess really 😊 hehe - I have about 3 million pictures though so need to sort through them I think!
Went to watch a thai boxing match on Monday night - was a really good night of boxing -
although some of the boxers were smaller than me! It was good fun though as everyone from the house came out and they even had connect 4 on the tables to keep us entertained!!
I had so much to do this week as am leaving Chiang Mai tonight. Jen, Rachel and I are catching the sleeper train down to Bangkok tonight and arrive there early tomorrow (Sunday) morning. Will spend the day and night in Bangkok and then Jen is flying to Phnom Penh on Monday. Rachel and I will then get the bus to the Cambodian border and a bus again from the otherside to Siem Reap where we will spend around 3 days at Angkor Wat to visit the temples etc. We are going to spend about 10 days in Cambodia and then 2 and half weeks in Vietnam. Will be a busy month!!
Anyway all - I probably wont be able to do another blog for a few weeks but will try to keep in touch etc!
Hope you are all well - take care!
Nicole
