Arriving in Chiang Mai at around midday we found accommodation and then managed to work on some errands, such as buying our last flight tickets from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang (Laos) and Luang Prabang to Hanoi (Vietnam). Not so long ago we would have travelled overland but with the end of our trip looming we are losing enthusiasm for travelling rough and by flying we save ourselves 3 days.

We had a superb lunch in a restaurant called Moxie which is in the plush D2 hotel. The Thai Green Curry was probably the best Ed had ever had, and the place reminded us of Zuma, one of our favourites in London.

We strolled around the impressive night market but realised it probably wasn’t looking its best at 4pm in the afternoon so hailed a rickshaw and as luck had it on the rickshaw’s back was an advert for the Queen Vic English pub, so that’s where we ended up. Most English or Irish bars we’ve gone to outside of big cities full of Westerners have been disappointing, but this one was an exception. They even serve their draught lagers in proper English pint glasses, which makes them taste far better.
