After an extremely long journey we finally arrived in Chiang Mai late Monday evening. The flights were excellent, plenty of leg room, food and drink (free) and copious amounts of germs from mum's neighbour, who coughed, blew her nose and sniffed from Dubai to Bangkok (oh forgot the sneezing)
Wow what a place we are still gob-smacked. In fact this morning we are totally f****d, you may ask why, well here goes - we checked into a very nice rustic Thai guest house, lots of wood, loads of tropical plants, a real feng shui atmosphere, complete with stepping stone paths through goldfish ponds and hammocks in the garden. Great we thought, our room was double with en suite, well nearly, our room was a converted outhouse our ensuite was outside the front door next to outdoor kitchen and dining area Not too good for other residents after our very nice Pad Thai and curries the previous night. There were also an excessive amount of cats, which used the roof of next doors bathroom as a bouncy-castle, UNTIL last night! They bounced too hard and probably for the last time, as they caved in the bathroom ceiling of next door, taking out the electricity and the water, this occurred at 5 am.
We heard screams from the girls room, and then to the rescue came the proprietor. To say it was bad timing on the cats part is an understatement, he had had a very stressful day, and proceeded to try and kill the cats, clear up some of the mess and then completely lost the plot, he ran shouting and screaming through the guest house, threatening to kill his wife and smashing any piece of glass that got in his way!! Needless to say, Jeannie and I were pooping ourselves along with the pussy cats and other residents. By 7 am we were packed and on our way, we had eventful ride in a tuk-tuk, found another guest house, so we checked in and found this internet shop.
We were going 'watting today' but as we do not know what wat is what at the moment due to lack of sleep and excessive fear, we are going for a massage and maybe some shopping therapy. (By the way, when we checked out he kindly asked why we were leaving - doh)!!

Everything is great now, we have a nice place to stay (first one we came to as Jeannie wasn't too keen on the idea of backpacking after the first few yards!) Sorry Alan, a suitcase on wheels would have been better! Anyway it's not too expensive, but we would have paid Hilton Rack Rate to get away from the mmmmmad man!
We hope to start doing some touristy things once we get some sleep, we were going to book them with the Proprietor of the guest house, but didn't like to ask him this morning when we checked out, just in case!
So watch this space, for tourist information, but we will update Lonely Planet with regard to their recommendations.
Love to you all, look forward to hearing from you, or anyone, please!
