Songkran is Thailand's 3 day New Year' festival. We speak of it towards the end of our trip. Check out this video clip to see how much fun they have. We took a break from the action for lunch in the park. A whole fish, greens, shrimp noodles and mango juice, how good is that?

Lulu found a Moroccan restaurant online. We had a table overlooking the river and devoured cous cous chicken, tajine beef, seafood tajine and a torta with ice cream and strawberries for dessert.

We stopped in this town where they had hot springs. This natural geyser shoots hot water way up into the air. There was a shallow stream nearby full of children playing and adults soaking their feet. Beautiful.

There were many of these checkpoints along the highways. At first, police would just wave us through and then they were unmanned during the 3 day Songkran.

Once again Lulu went online using her phone, and a blog site recommended an out of the way restaurant. It was full of customers, and no wonder, the food was delicious and cheap.

We drove past Chiang Rai to the Golden Triangle. This is the border area between Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand, and used to be a famous opium producing area.

Thailand is on the extreme left side of the picture, Myanmar is in the center and Laos is on the right.

A few miles south of Chiang Rai, this famous tourist attraction is extremely ornate, and absolutely unique and beautiful. We had to wait our turn to take pictures because of the many mostly Chinese tourists.

The Temple itself is actually quite small, but makes up for it in brilliance, detail and imagination.

Even the walk to the entrance is superbly decorated. The bits of mirror in the finish sparkled brilliantly in the sunshine.

We were waiting to catch our flight home after spending 19 days on the road. Lulu was a fantastic travelling companion!

Awesome trip!! We were also in Thailand for the New Years water activities! It was crazy!! I also remember the white temple, pretty spectacular!
