Ko SametKo SametKo Samet

Leaving the area we stayed in (Ao Hin Khok) Ko Samet Island
Our current location is KO Chang but before we go into this area we have a last update on Ko Samet. We did the last blog thinking the next day we would be making our way to Ko Chang however we didn’t count on the dreaded lurgy (suspected food poisoning) changing the plan.

I was vomiting all that night then spent the next day either comatose or on the toilet. Victoria then proceeded to do exactly the same thing the next night so all in all we spent another 3 days on the island just dying and lying.
Finally left for Trat, our ultimate destination Ko Chang. We had to do this via Chanthaburi which is a 2 hour bus ride to the station (on the usual air con government bus). As previous times we were hustled to get a ticket for the next leg. So far despite the pressure we have managed to stick to our original plans of using government transport. Unfortunately the touts won and our ride this time was a small PRIVATE mini bus. I went round the back to watch the packs being loaded to find there wasn’t enough room for both. I carried the

pack round to the door to find Victoria standing on the bus saying “there are no seats!” not too happy, I shouted at the bus man in my best broken English “You overfill bus, find us seats or give us money back!” after moving a few people around we finally got seated with the extra pack next to the seat. The bus man had to stand in the aisle he kept looking at me as if to say put the pack on your lap and I can then sit on the step in front. I was dying for him to actually ask me so I could tell him “tough shit! Try not overselling the bus next time” unfortunately he didn’t …. He just stood there for the whole 1 hour journey ha ha.

We finally got to Trat bus station and met Pat the Irishman who had been there before and knew exactly where to take us for cheap accommodation. For those of you traveling in this area we ended up stopping with Pat at the POP Guest House on the Th Thana Charoen road. It only cost 250 Bhatt (approx 4 pounds) had its own toilet, shower, TV and HOT water…absolute bargain and the surrounding streets all have some great little restaurants catering for backpackers.

Next stop for the blog is Ko Chang…..
