Matsu, oh Matsu. This has to have been the first real vacation that I have taken in years. We didn't go on past two of the islands of Matsu but we went beyond our expectations. Everyday we woke up the view of the ocean complimented by a beautiful Gazebo. Matsu was calming, and adventurous.

The island is really unique. Being the last stand of the old Chinese Government against Mao Zedong's, the island is covered with many abandoned military bases and artificial sea caves. Hills and turns and drops gave our riding exciting spins and speeds that I've never reached before. Though one hill on Begang Island destroyed us(Think 30minutes of steep up-hill Climbing) we found an artificial sea cave along the side to bike our way through on the way back. On another day we found an abandoned bunker with a network of floors and halls in the side of a cliff. Things like this kept us from being lulled away with the next part
The place is totally relaxing. Coffees in the morning, New Zealand steaks in the evening and no body has a feeling to rush anything. Days after heavy biking were spent with

This picture is actually from the previous trip, but I liked it so much I had to put it here.
collecting the variety of seashells by day and trying to take pictures of the phosphorescent waves at night. And if we only wanted to a little biking we could go from Ren'ai to the Matsu Town and drink beers with painters outside 7-11.
For someone who usually tries to push his body and mind to the limit for vacation Matsu has proved to be a cheep respite and a great way to rekindle my spirit from the hardships of Mainland China.
Next timeā€¦. I think I will bike out of here.
