No snake scares this morning. We were offered breakfast by our gracious host and our farewell meal was coconut rotis with a pickled chutney. We were also served something sweeter, which looked like frog spawn but tasted syrupy. We also had a couple of bananas and were ready for the long drive ahead.

The morning was filled with a long trek back to Kandy. We arrived just before lunch and were at the realisation that we were going to have to dip into our emergency fund for the first time. This involved a walk in the baking sun down to the town once more, by which point it was about half past 2. We acquired some money from a cashpoint and got the cheapest lunch we could find from a bakery, before we decided to do a lap of the lake. We managed to find a few water monitor lizards, as well as a selection of turtles, who humorously dodged Meg’s camera at several attempts. About 3/4s of the way around the lake we were confronted by a temple… For Buddha’s tooth. No. Really. Now we didn’t go in there because a)Foreigner prices and b) I don’t want to go see a very very old molar in there. It’s just a bit weird. We did find a church next door and had a look around that. We then took an extended route home, stopping at a bakery to buy chicken curry (I know right) which would be my dinner for the evening. We were a bit drained following our elephant adventures from the day before, and as we didn’t do anything particularly new this is a particularly short blog. Soz.

Top Tip: When you’re on car journeys in Sri Lanka, don’t look where you’re going. Just presume the driver knows what he’s doing. Looking at the erratic driving around you will just make you shit yourself. Not Literally.
