Edit Blog Post
I figured that I would write another blog entry. I am trying to think of what has happened in this past week that was out of the ordinary and so different. Work was the same as per usual, except for the fact that I got sick. I should have known that would happen. There are germs here that are not in Canada and plus many of the kids are sick as well. I just coughed and had a stuffy nose with the rest of my students so it all worked out in the end. The kids are getting used to my teaching style now, however, they are also learning how to ‘annoy’ Chantelle teacher. Typical children! I still look forward to going to school and seeing them though.
I did finally get my medical done at a hospital. That is some test you have to do. Blood pressure, height, weight, seeing, hearing, urine and blood work. That all took some time! I also finally got a cellphone! Yay! Plus they have really cool phones here, and can you guess what colour it is? PINK, that is right! Even Christy knew I would get a pink phone haha. They are getting to
know me a little too well at the school.
I did go to dinner with Maggie one of the nights and that was really nice. We had cheesa kimbop, I am not sure how to write it but it is delicious anyways. It is like a California roll back in Canada but with cheese and so much better! They make it right in front of you and it is really cheap as well. After having that here as well as sushi I am thoroughly disappointed in Canada’s sushi. It is amazing here! We also did a little tour of the neighbourhood area. We went to the bakery and meat shop, such nice owners. I can not say enough good things about bakeries here! There are just amazing and also cheap. There are many things to choose from and each has a sample as well so you know what you are buying. Always a plus! You take a tray and tongs and then load it up! Some bakeries such as Sang Sim Dang Bakery has such yummy pizza. I also found the most amazing popsicle, it taste like an ice cap from Tim Hortons! That is my addiction at the moment!
Saturday was my day to go out and venture. I got on the subway and went to the Jungangno Underground Shopping District....AMAZING! It is many, many stores all in one area. I also went to the market by that area and that is also really good for shopping and food. I even found Starbucks...yay! Funny how many foreigners were in there.... Lol. After walking around that area for awhile I made my way over to Lotte Department Store. It is a shopper’s heaven, but it is expensive. It has all your brand names in there and is 12 floors. You find your burberry, gucci, prada, calvin klien, guess and so on in this area. I was happy to find the Body Shop. It also has a floor of restaurants and then a movie theatre. In the basement you can find a food court with an assortment of food. I have noticed how Koreans are so stylish and how much they love their shopping. Stuff that you get over in the west has probably been out in Asia for quite awhile already. I have seen so many things here that are not out in Canada yet. As well there is no
way I am wearing their pointy toed heels that they all wear. It puzzles me how they walk on some of the streets that they do with their heels. I also found Dosan Seowan which was a private school that was built for scholars pursuing the Confucius truth. It was really neat to see.
On Saturday night I joined thousands of other Koreans and many foreigners on a venture to the Gapcheon River where a musical was taking place. It was the most amazing musical I have ever seen and the bonus was that it was free. It was mostly on the river. The costumes were amazing and I really liked all the fire, dancing and fireworks. There was so much going on that you were always entertained. The best part was when they had two dancers hanging over the river on a rope and they did an acrobatic dance. Really cool! Since it was Independence Day here in South Korea they also had fireworks and I can say I have never seen fireworks like that. There was so many and they even had ones shaped like hearts.
Every day is an adventure and I hope you are enjoying
reading about it!
Miss you all! XOXO
