This trip turned out to be kind of an Asia sampler tour because of the people we wanted to see and the flights arrangements we made (SF to Singapore, with loooong layovers in Seoul). We spent a few days in Singapore and Seoul at the beginning and end of our trip and we spent the bulk of our time in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and in Vietnam.

We spent the first night of the trip, New Year’s Eve, in Seoul, South Korea. It was pretty cold so we bought some funky stocking hats from a street vendor and walked around the Gangnam area of Seoul. There were a lot of people out and it was pretty festive. We had some difficultly getting dinner at first. At the first Korean BBQ restaurant we went into, we were told "English No" as we tried to sit down, even though there were a few tables available. We left the restaurant of linguistic discrimination and found another place down the street that served "pig", which they said while pointing to some BBQ meat, so we were cool with that.
